Convert to local currency?

We're leaving for Hotel Riu this week and I wanted to know if you recommend exchanging to the local currency? We don't plan on leaving the resort much so I'm not sure if it's worth it. When we went to Jamaica last year, we lost money in the exchange and the resort employees wanted their tips in USD rather than the Jamaica dollar. What are your thoughts? *TIA*

Not really worth to convert to local currency as most places would take US$ and especially if you are not really planning on leabving the resort. If needed you can exchange $100 or so at the resort for local cabs etc.

Nice idea to have some colones with you...maybe exchange just a couple hundred dollars...nice to have som local currency...remember is very easy...even that the exchange rate changes almost daily...figure every bill multile by 500 or divide by 500
