Dog friendly Finger Lakes attractions

We're visiting the Finger Lakes region with our puppy during October so we're looking for things to do with him. We're based in Seneca Falls but happy to drive several hours to enjoy the area. Current plans include Letchworth Park, Buttermilk Falls, and Montezuma. We'd like to take him to Watkins Glen but recall that dogs weren't allowed on the main trail.

Suggestions very welcome.

You are correct about the gorge trail at Watkins Glen not being pet friendly (too narrow and steep with lots of stairs), but you will find that most of the wineries are now pet friendly. Pretty much unless they serve food, dogs are welcome. It's always polite to ask first, especially if a winery seems particularly busy. A few that I know for sure love dogs are Shalestone, Atwater and Finger Lakes Distilling. Taughannock Falls State Park has a nice gorge trail that is pet friendly as well.

It is extremely important to get a letter from your vet showing your dog has had rabies vaccinations to visit the state parks- the tags you generally get aren't enough. I've never had them ask, but it is a requirement and if they do decide to ask and you don't have them...

Buttermilk Falls has a lot of stairs, Treman has a lot. Both are worth doing, and since your dog is a puppy you may not have to worry too much about this, but it can take a toll on a dog's hips. We really started noticing it on our border collie when he hit 7 years old, but even when he was younger it could be a bit tough.

The hike up the creek bed at Taughannock Falls will be one of the dogs fave's, flat and he can get wet on the way. You may also want to look at Grimes Glen in Naples, very dog friendly (you will all be wading through at least ankle deep water). Conklin Gully, if you hear about that, is NOT good, there are a couple of scrambles.

There's also another spot we found, but it's escaping me right now....
