Where to stay?

Hi- wondering if my husband and I could have your imput on where to stay in the Finger Lake region. We are coming from Toronto for just a few days to enjoy the scenery, wine, food and accommodations. We are celebrating a special anniversary. We are hoping to stay a couple of nights at "10 Fitch Inn" in Auburn-then wondering where to go from there? I know there is lots to see-hope to do a couple of wine tours/tasting-hopefully more time permitting-some shopping and some pretty drives. We arrive on the Sunday of Memorial Day-and wondering where we should spend our 1st night since we won't be arriving in the area until late afternoon-of course this depends on availability-We were thinking about staying in Geneva or Seneca Falls our 1st night-then moving to Auburn from there for a couple of nights-any suggestions would be appreciated-

You might try The Quiet Place, in the Canandaigua Lake area. They're most likely booked. But, you might get lucky! http://www.thequietplace.com/

In Auburn, consider a visit to the Seward House; former home of William Seward (secretary of state under Lincoln and better known for "Seward's Folly"). Original furnishings, artifacts, etc. and great docents who tell the interesting story of Seward and his family). Moro's Table is a recommended dining spot.

Skaneateles (6 miles east of Auburn) is worth a stroll - small but upscale town at the foot of the lake of the same name.

Seneca Falls (12 miles) and Geneva (25 miles) are pretty close to Auburn; if you don't mind stopping so close, either are fine.

As for a place to stay, you may want to try a B&B. I think this is the most complete site for B&B's in The Finger Lakes region: http://www.stayfingerlakes.com/
