Trip insurance

My parents and I are planning a trip for December. We are planning on renting a home, is there any trip insurance that I could purchase just in case something happens and we are unable to go the week we pay for? Total refund? Will have insurance on airfare. Thank you

Most of the places will let you cancel up to 30 days prior to arrival. If you think there might be a reason you will need to cancel, just talk with who you are renting from and explain the situation. If all else fails, maybe they will let you reschedule at another date.

If you are renting a home through VRBO then they offer insurance.

I always get trip insurance to cover the cost of our rental and air fare. Check out InsureMyTrip.com to get quotes.

Most trip insurance plans only cover specific reasons for cancelling a trip, ie. death in the family, hospitalization of someone traveling, weather, etc..

You can purchase "cancel for any reason" coverage, but it is more expensive & will usually only refund a portion of your expenses. I purchased "cancel for any reason' for a 2 week Europe trip & that particular policy only payed 65% of expenses.

Make sure you read the fine print & read reviews of the various insurance companies!!

And the vrbo insurance only covers you if the rental was not as advertised or some other major problem with the rental property itself.
