Turtle Cove Rental, North Eleuthera

My husband wants to try this rental, listed as "off the grid". We love the outer islands, Cat Island, Tiamo on Andros, The Exumas, but first time to Eleuthera. Anyone stayed at Turtle Cove? Any advice for staying so far north? Rent a boat? They do have use of a car at the home that we can use to explore the island. We do love to explore. Thanks in advance for your help. TA has made all of our Bahamas adventures magical thanks to the input from people on the site.

I have not seen any reviews on Turtle Cove so all I can tell you is that it is fairly isolated.

Please note that home-owners can't legally include their car in the house rental. If a vehicle does not have green SD (self-drive) plates then it is not insured as a rental vehicle and you are in for an interesting experience if you get into an accident.

So it is better to rent a car? Or is there insurance? Have always rented cars before so this is new to us. Any ideas for restaurants, groceries that way?

Thanks for the information on the auto. Good to know ahead of time.

Rental cars with green SD plates should all have appropriate insurance, so I would stick with a rental car.

The North Eleuthera Shopping Centre (Burchies) is just off the Queen's Highway on the road to Bluff, and is one of the two largest grocery stores on the island, so you would have a good store not too far away. There are not many restaurant options in that area.

Look 19 posts down - Gregory Town, Rainbow Bay, Governors Harbour, Rock Sound listing on this forum. I posted information there that will be helpful.

We have stayed at this property twice. It used to be called Turtle's Nest, so you might get more feedback forum trying that name. Not sure why it has been renamed. This is a primitive location. The house has propane refrigerators, stove, and the electricity runs off an engine in a shed out back. Yes you have to go and turn the key to start it and get the electricity going. We only turned the electric on in the evenings when we done playing in paradise. It's kinda like RV camping. :) You won't see a sole at the property, there is no homes for miles. The road is a dirt road and was pretty bumpy both times we've been there. We always rent a boat. You can take the boat around the point to the various beaches or walk down the path to the beach (1/4 mile or so). We also take the boat across the bay to Harbor Island, get fresh fish from the spear fisherman and will eat at one of the restaurants over there. There isn't a swimming beach right in front of the house. We also enjoy fishing off the dock. Last time we were there the car was a 4 door suzuki samari, we were able to cram our family in it just fine. You are very close to the ferry that goes to Spanish Wells, so you can take that over to the big grocery store if you want. Harbor Island also has a small grocery store.. There is one in town as well but they don't have much. We used to buy fresh baked bread and goods from an old lady in town. I fear now, she is no longer around. :( Both times we went, we packed coolers of food and brought them with us. There really aren't any restaurant options close to the house so you are on your own for the majority of your meals. We are thinking about going back again for our next vacation.
