Squires estate

Any thoughts or experience on these rentals? Am thinking of heading down with a couple of friends for a get away in early october. Looking for proximity to nice beaches, dont really want complete solitude, some sort of activity and some sort of mellow "night life" ( restaurants, drinks, etc), and basically just exploring the island.

Squires is in a nice central location, but it will be a very different experience than having a house on the beach. Its definitely in the 'busy' part of the 'city' and you will here the traffic at all hours (not that there is a ton of it), and if you like to sleep in, better keep the windows closed or the many roosters in close proximity will make sure you get up nice and early. I actually like the crowing of roosters, but then again, I usually get up before them.

If you would prefer to listen to the crashing waves, have complete silence (except nature at night) and being just a few steps from a gorgeous beach, there are better choices.

If you place a high value in being in walking distance of several bars and stores, and you don't mind the traffic and rooster noise, it might be a nice place to stay.

We have been looking at Squires Estates for part of our trip. They have a special which gives you free air flight, for two, from Nassau (I believe its a 4 night minimum). Actually there are other hotel/resorts in The Bahamas that have the same deal. Just go to the Bahamas Outilands site and they have the list there by islands.

Eleulover is right on. They're lovely houses, especially the older ones, but you are "in Town". That means ten minutes to the beach and houses all around. Depends on what you want. If you don't want "complete solitude" those houses could be perfect. Get the one with the pool.

Depending on the length of stay, and the spirit of exploring the island, a car rental gives many options. Squires Estate looks very well appointed, with amazing architectural designs inside there houses. We have passed by the property many times, and it is very well groomed. It was very quite, and peaceful for being in the middle of Governors Harbour. Yes if you want the beach outside your door then this may not be a top pick. But looking at the property is enticing if you have the option of traveling to the beaches, and also meeting the people of Eleuthera.

Also be aware they are doing some major construction/renovations so at the moment its not very relaxing.
