Lubbers vs Guana vs Elbow

We are trying to decide where to rent a house for a week of fishing and sun. Can anyone help me with the pros and cons of the cays I mentioned? We will rent a boat and are looking for a place that isn't completely isolated, however not 'in the middle' of things either.

Thanks for the input!

We've made two trips to the Abacos and it's my opinion that Elbow and Lubbers offer a more central location than Great Guana. We also spent three days on Guana after a week on Lubbers. From Elbow or Lubbers it's easy to go as far north as Guana or south to Little Harbour with lots of interesting stop in between. Grab a copy of the Dodge Guide ( http://www.wspress.com/detail-cga.htm ).

While we love Lubbers, it is isolated in my opinion. Cracker P's is the only place to eat out. It's a great place, but you'll only have that one choice or returning by boat before dark if you visit Elbow. Elbow has far more dining choices that you can cart or walk to.

I doubt if you'll feel 'in the middle of things' anywhere in the Abacos.

We love Guana as it was bar far the best vacation I've ever had.

It's not a huge island as there are almost no cars- most people get around on golf carts. Our house came with 1 golf cart and there is a rental company on the island. We rented a boat in Marsh Harbor so we'd have transportation to/from Guana. Also did our grocery/beverage shopping in Marsh Harbor, although there is a small grocery store on Guana. Our days were spent fishing and cay hopping. We ate several meals at Hopetown and Turtle Cay-(dont try this at night in a boat, like we did). Most nights, after dinner, we rode the golf carts around the island and had drinks at Nippers Bar. (nippersbar.com) There are several restaurants on the island and the food was fairly good. We stayed on the bay side as we needed a home with a dock for the boats, but the trip to the ocean side was about 2 minutes by golf cart. I've never stayed at Lubbers or Elbow Cay but have been to Eleuthera and Guana is by far my favorite of those two.

We loved Great Guana! We stayed at the Dolphin Beach Resort in Rory's Cottage. BLISS!! Our own private entrance to a breath taking beach, we were within walking distance of Nippers., albeit a 10 - 15 minute stroll. While there's certainly more to do and see in Elbow Cay, if you want the private island experience than you should consider Great Guana. Driving around in golf carts was a blast. Caribbean Travel & Life Magazine freatured Bakers Bay on GGC in their annual Ultimate Beaches issue in 2005 urging readers to see it before a major controversial development that threated the island's reef system with a golf course. Fortunately the locals banded together and were able to halt the project!!! Yeah for Troy & Maria at Dive Guana.

When we were there we ate at 4 different restaurants on the island. Yes, you should definitely get your provisions in Marsh Harbor better selection and lower prices. Plus, you can always day trips to Elbow, Man-o-War, and Green Turtle Cay. Take a look at some of these links:

Don't know anything about Lubbers

Some of the best snorkeling ever though be aware that you should be prepared to see sharks. Nurse sharks but still sharks.

The Out Islands are still very much the way the Caribbean used to be. Have a wonderful vacation where ever you land!
