Things to do in Freeport

I'm taking a cruise and one of my stops is Freeport. I'm trying to find something to do from port but Carnival doesn't really offer anything that I can tell. So can anyone give me any suggestions on things to do while I'm there. I'm really would like to go to a nice beach. So can I get a taxi or bus from the port to a nice beach that won't cost a fortune. Anything anybody can tell us about Freeport and the best things to do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much

I just came back from Freeport last week. You have to go to the Market for great dinners, drinks and shopping if you want. Try the Conch Fritters they are great.

If you go to the Grand Lacayan hotel I believe you can get a day pass for that resort and they have a beautiful beach area or you can take a cab and go further east to a public beach which was very nice too. Even had a restaurant right on the beach, I just cannot remember the name but ask the cab driver. Its the only public beach on facing the south side going towards the east side of the island. If your looking at doing any excursions stay away from the steak/lobster dinner on the boat, very bad and not worth the money. Scooters are great to rent and they are right beside the market. Have fun I know we did.

Good Morning

Sorry for the delayed response on this but there is only one place directly across from the Grand Lacayan hotel leading to the market, Each scooter holds one person. Lots of fun you should try it out. Just remember to stay on the other side like in England of the road. LOL

Dan S.: " Its the only public beach on facing the south side going towards the east side of the island"

Not sure where you got that info from, but it's incorrect. all beaches are public up to the high water mark (even Grand Lucayan's), it's just that the beach access to the beach that Grand Lucayan refers you to is not attractive. Also Taino Beach is the only beach with public restrooms.

If you don't mind walking a bit further, you can actually access the beach at a nicer point if you walk just past the bus stop and down the first corner on the left. it will be maybe about a 1/2 mile of walking.

I just came back from the Bahamas via a Norwegian cruise. Freeport is very industrial. So they don't have much going on. When you first dock you'll see several vendors, for gifts, and food. I would suggest taking a cab over to Port Lucaya. There they have a marketplace (everyone pretty much sells the same stuff) but there's a small casino, more food, and theres a beach over there where u can relax an unwind
