Nassau or Grand Bahama??

am in the midst of planning a 40th getaway for 4 girls...went to Key West last year (also a 40th) and had a blast, but want something different this year. Are looking for a nice hotel with nice pool and beach and within walking distance to shopping and nitelife! Both places sound good...is one better for what we are looking for then the other?? Have not been to Bahamas before (except for docking for a short time on a cruise) and am not sure which direction to go! Thanx=)

I have been to both and it depends what you want. Stayed at two place on paradise island. One was a private condo and it was a family getaway. The other was a girls weekend and we stayed at the Comfort Suites, which is across from Atlantis, and you get full access to Atlantis for about 150/night compared to alot more if you stay at Atlantis. Atlantis has the casino, which has a club, but it was defintely a younger crowd at the club (20's). Went to GBI last year with a friend, and stayed at the Sheraton. It was wonderful, full spa, tons of pools, restaurants, Starbucks in lobby, right across the street from the market place which has a Subway (for cheap eats) and tons of restaurants and a few dance type of clubs. Also a casino, not of the caliber of Atlantis, but pretty good. You cant beat the Sheraton/Westin pools, a few are infiniti and others are just huge, meandering through palm trees and under bridges, etc. Lots of swim up bars. Atlantis is gorgeous too, so it just depends on what you like. Atlantis is wall to wall people, hard to get a lounge chair, but go down early morning, get a towel from the towel dude, and put it out. Atlantis also has full spa, got a manicure there, though and it was almost 100 with tip. Have fun. PS If you choose the Sheraton/Westin, know that the Sheraton side is more family oriented and the Westin is more couples, and people with no kids. We stayed at the sheraton side and it was alot cheaper. Fridges in rooms, (go acroos the street and get beer/liquor and keep in room) Beers are 5 bucks apiece for Kalik. They add grat. onto everything, but you can charge everything to your room...let me know if you have any more specific questions.

Depends on what you are after. Good beaches and much better for the price-Grand Bahama. Check out Island Seas at http://www.condoexpress.com. For night life, I'd recommend Nassau hands down.

I'm having the same dilema -- Paradise Island (looking at Riu) or the Sheration Our Lucaya in Freeport (not doing All Inclusive). It will be myself and 19 year old daughter -- we really won't be partying all night (I hope!). Plus the Shearaton is $400 per person cheaper for 3 nights -- it's not all inclusive, but if we don't eat at the hotel restaurants, I'm sure we won't spend $400 per person on food for 3 days. I'm hesitant about the Sheraton however because many reviews said it was over-run with kids. Now that mine is grown up, I no longer appreciate screaming, crying, whining children! How bad is it really? We'll be there in July. What we are really looking for is a great beach -- clean, no seaweed, crystal clear water, possible snorkelling off shore. What do you think would be our best option?

I preferred the Westin/Sheraton at Lucaya GBI to Paradise Island. Partly because of the price, but mostly because plenty of shopping (duty-free and local stuff) and restaurants are right across the street at Port Lucaya Market Place. Night life can be found at Count Basie Square at Port Lucaya Market Place and the pubs/bars around the Square. (The hotel has night life at Prop Club on some evenings also.) It was not party till wee hours of the night, but it depends on how late you prefer to party till. (Checkout Port Lucaya Market Place's website for shops/restaurant/nightly entertainment.) We are not gambling people so cannot comment on the on-site Casino.

I would like to add that if you are considering Our Lucaya (Sheraton/Westin on GBI), you should check out both the pricing for Sheraton and Westin before you count Westin out as too expensive. I have seen Westin rooms at only $20 more per night on Expedia. I was at the Sheraton last year, there were not too many kids, but I did made sure it was before the full on-slaught of Spring Break. This year we are trying out the Westin for their Heavenly Beds. Whether you stay at the Westin or Sheraton you will be able to use all the facilities on the property. Pelican Bay is a quieter/smaller hotel across the street from the Sheraton/Westin. It is not directly on the beach, but you will not have problems with access to the beach in front of the Sheraton/Westin since beaches in Bahamas are public. I also heard that you could buy privilege to use the Sheraton/Westin facilities for a nominal fee if you stay at the Pelican Bay.

Good luck. I think you will have lots of fun no matter which place you choose.
