Atlantsi Questions

We are thinking on visiting Paradise Island during May 20 thru 27 2006 for our 15th anniv. After doing some research on the hotels, I think we will stay at the Atlantis. Have a few questions about the resort.

Have heard mixed reviews about Atlantis, generally good, but some had suggested indifferent and rude wait staff. What is the general experience with Atlantis ?.

We are planning on flying from Atlanta to Nassau. Should we rent a car ?. Or take local transportation ?. Is there anything else to do on the island that would justify renting a car ?.

I have read about people not getting reservations in any of the restaurants on site. Is that a big problem ?. Or just depends on the time you visit ?.

What is the peak period there ?. Would the resort be crowded in May?.

Thanks

Great ocean view unless you get into a room with a view of the new condo construction going on right now. I agree with the previous posters comments about the rooms needing "refreshing". Our experience was that, in general, our rooms (a suite with an adjoining room) were also not cleaned very well.

A big part of the problem with this destination is the attitude of the people. You get the distinct impression that they really do not want to be working there. It's one of the only places the locals can work to earn a living. My opinion is that they may not be treated well by management. But that's just a hunch.

As I mentioned before in a previous posting, you could have a much better experience elsewhere for far less than the premium that Atlantis Paradis Island charges. In my opinion the value is just not there.

That's right. And a good view is what you will remember about your room, not the thread count.

Vangras.You won't need to rent a car.

Best to use the local bus service to get about. It costs a standard $1 and you pay as you leave the bus. This is a good way to see the island as well as absorb a bit of the local culture.Great music on the buses.

As a regular long stay visitor to Nassau i think that you will get the best deals at local cafes on Paradise Island for breakfasts and in my humble opinion the best place to eat in town is Cafe Matisse.A little more expensive but good quality food.

There is also a good Chinese rest. at the Atlantis end of Nassau and a good French Rest. at the other side of town.

I advise you to read the U.S. and the U.K. Govts. advice on hiring jet skis at Atlantis. If you check out Google on Jet Ski accidents at Atlantis you will understand my caution.

Good beaches used by locals are outside of town before cable beach.Good snorkeling there and safe too.

Unfortunately rudeness selfishness and ripping off tourists happens.

It begins with the monopoly exercised by the taxi service from the airport to town.Be certain to establish the exact fare that you are being charged for the cab before you agree to take it

You will also find helpful and polite Bahamians.

Happy Holiday.

Stay at Comfort Suites for half the price. The staff is much nicer than Atlantis. Of course, you won't have a beach view but it's just a short walk to Atlantis. There are also some nice restaurants nearby that aren't as crowded or as pricey. The rooms may not be as nice but you're only in the room for a short time each day anyway. I've stayed there for years and find it vey enjoyable.

Lots to do at the Atlantis...We never left the resort, we stayed 4 nights, 5 days and only saw half of the resort! Just last week- Yes, make your dinner plans early if you plan to eat at the resort and if you do, take the meal plan. We took the Gourmet plan which allowed us breakfast and dinner among several places. All were very good and very expensive. Even thou we took the meal plan, you still pay a gratuity on the total cost of meal, not plan cost. Everything is expensive and we have traveled to many places and usually stay in places like the Bellagio in Vegas. All the rooms are the same, no matter what "tower" you stay in. But are clean and comfortable just not plush. Service was not bad at all, they are all certainly americanized. No need for a car, local tax is ok and is about $10 from the airport. All of the pools and things to do are amazing and it is beautiful. We are planning a trip back in November. The peak time is now thru march I think. Best places on property to eat were Seafire and NOBU. I found over all the service in jamaica at sANDALS TO BE THE BETTER THAN ATLANTIS. Enjoy

my husband and i were just at the atlantis over superbowl weekend. very beautiful place. however, we did find that for the money the service (not everywhere) was below par.the dealers at the casino were quite indifferent and most table minimums for superbowl nite ($100) were ridiculous! we stayed at the coral towers, beautiful view of the marina, rooms were clean, but dated.we do like to go high end on the restaurants and found the bahamian club and the cafe at the great hall of waters very good.seafire grill was over rated (our prime ribs at $40+ each were mostly fat) the grounds are amazing, the beach gorgeous. all in all we will probably not go again, very enjoyable but you do not get your money's worth.
