Shark nets?

I was recently in the Bahamas and stayed at the Atlantis. The first day in the water I saw 2 women who were swimming pretty far out in the water. They said not to worry about going out that far because there were shark nets. Since we didn't see anything in the water and the water is crystal clear I thought ok. On the last day we were there, we saw a barracuda and a small school of fish. Anyway, does anyone know if there are shark nets around the beaches??

Forgot to mention... Some mistake the floats marking the swim areas as shark nets. They are markers to try to deter motorized craft from entering the swimming area. Also a visual for life guards. There are no shark nets. Swimming early in the am or at dusk when they come in to feed is not recommended.
