Atlantis Vs. Disney World

Hi All!

So my boyfriend is taking me on a trip this summer for my college graduation present--yay! originally, we were going to go to Atlantis. I was super stoked, but then I started to investigate the resort and I found a fair number of negative reviews about how they nickle and dime you over every little thing(20 dollars for wifi--what?! 15 for a mini fridge! 7 for water--I can't even.) BUT it seemed like the activities would be amazing. We did the math of the trip by looking into the Coral Towers.

I started looking into Disney World and saw that it seemed to be a bit more inclusive. We'd be spending about the same(if we went, we'd do a savanna view room in the animal kingdom lodge and regardless of where we go, we have about 3500 to spend) but it seemed like there were cheaper food options, the plane tickets were cheaper, we wouldn't have to pay for transportation etc etc. We also did the math accounting for Park Hopper tickets and then the addition for water parks.I found much better reviews on Disney, so I started to lean that way, but now I'm not sure again.

All of that being said, we are both 21, he has been to both places, Atlantis more than once, and I have been to neither. Last time he went to Disney he was about 12, and he was around the same age both times he went to Atlantis as well.

What do you all think? I'd love some outsider's opinions!

Just to add my two cents..why would disney and atlantis cost the same when one is in your country and the other is in an international destination..domestic tickets are usually cheaper than traveling abroad and yes the food is more expensive here because everything is imported.

Kamal, it would cost about the same because we would be staying in either the coral towers at atlantis or the animal kingdom lodge at Disney. we also allotted a certain amount for food. The tickets to Disney are cheaper, but the cost of the resort we want is a little bit more than Atlantis. so it all evened out. I was taken aback at how many little things Atlantis charged for, especially considering the reviews of the hotel we would be staying, it just didn't seem worth it. Now I think we are looking into staying at the Comfort Suites and utilizing their free atlantis day pass-overall I think we'll be saving around 1,000 dollars

Not only is Comfort Suites a great idea but what makes it better is that guests of C.S. enjoy FREE Hi-Speed WIFI Internet access in all rooms that worked great during my last stay. In addition, guests at C.S. enjoy FREE hot and cold breakfasts. I've stayed at C.S. 11 times on one week visits and never had a major problem with any of my rooms.

Since your B.F. has been to Atlantis, he knows all about the Aquaventure water park wrist ID bracelets at Atlantis. Every day, if you stay at C.S., you take your room ID paper card over to the Royal Tower lobby at Atlantis and get your daily ID bracelets. Both of you must be present to get two IDs. Bring laminating film to protect your C.S. ID as it costs $20 to replace if destroyed or lost.

My last stay at C.S. was 3 years ago in May.

The wrist ID's identify you as a guest at Atlantis or C.S. and allow you to roam the water park and go through the aquariums. You cannot go outside into the water park without your bracelets if a guest at C.S..

I have been to Disneyworld countless times and recently visited Atlantis with my adult children who are in their twenties. I think both are places that should be visited at least once in your lifetime. That being said, if I was 21 years old and could visit just one of these places, I would go to Disneyworld. Staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge would be a treat, I know from experience, but Disney's moderate hotels are also as beautiful. May I suggest a stay at Carribbean Beach for that tropical feel.....it would also save you a lot of money and would give you that carribbean feel. Even Disney's value accomodations are nice and about on par with a stay at Comfort Suites on Pleasure Island. (You must compare apples to apples...not to oranges!) I suggest Disney because there is more to do, especially at night. At Atlantis, even the pools and beach close early. My 21+ children visited the casino a couple times and stopped by the nightclubs but in the evenings they were a little bored. The waterpark at Atlantis is also smaller than the one's they have at Disney with a lot less slides and no wave pool. The biggest attraction at Atlantis and about the only thing that you won't get at Disney is beautiful beaches that you can swim in. (You can't go swimming in the water at the beaches at the Disney Resorts although they offer a ton of watersports there.) If you want your vacation to be about seeing/doing, than go to Disney. If it's relaxing by the beach you want, than a stay at Atlantis is in order.

I have been both places, and there is no comparison in my opinion. You should pick disney. Yes, Atlantis is nice! but definitely super exprensive and once you do the water park, there really isn't too much left to do. The casino is great, but unless you plan on bringing a ton of money .... Now, since I live in orlando, I can tell you that the Ak lodge is so so nice. You can wake up, walk out on your balcony and have a giraffe face to face with you. The parks have a lot to do, especially Epcot. You would have so many more options of things to do at disney.
