How gay friendly is Nassau?

Going to Nassau with friends who are gay couple. What's the general attitude in Nassau. They're not flamboyant but wondering if they should be just discreet or should be secretive. Will be staying at Breezes early March. Also, any info about weather/water temperatures and Breezes Resort would be greatly appreciated. Really looking forward to the trip & Nassau visit. Thanks for any help.

Our vacation in Nassau has come & gone & it was wonderful. My friends were very comfortable & even met a few other gay folks. Definitely were not mocked.

How was your trip, I have read such bad reviews. Please review Breezes, and any attractions you might have been to. My husband and myself are planning a trip in July. Thank you :-)

Mandi, Are you speaking from experience? At the resorts, I met several gay couples, none of which were mocked or made fun of. Though Isuspect the local population is far more conservative.

Although the bahamas is not a Gay Friendly community, the tourist areas are filled with Americans/Canadians and Brits, so you won't be rubbing elbows with those who view this as wrong.

Hotel staff is tolerant. Restaurants want your business, so you really won't find any trouble. I would stay away from local clubs like Cocktails and Dreams, since the crowd there is a bit more rowdy and may not be as silent.

Just to give you a thought. Up until a few months ago, Sandals didn't allow same gender couples in a room. They've come a long way, but still have a bit to go.

Peggysue, I wish I was going back to Breezes in July. I also read alot of negative things about the resort but I didn't find any of them to be true for me. The rooms were comfortable & clean, the food was delicious & plentiful & the staff was fantastic. The whole resort (grounds, beach, gardens, pools, etc.)is SO clean. They have people up early cleaning & also cleaning, discreetly, during the day. I was able to relax, hang out in my swimsuit & bare feet.

Take advantage of everything they offer. We used the kayaks & the paddleboats. (Didn't use the Hobbiecat sailboats cause didn't know how.) They also have an AM bicycle ride that's quite pleasant. We went to the Crystal Palace casino several times & shopped at the "mall" there. Nice selection of stores. Went into town but found the straw market somewhat depressing. Liked the little straw markets that were along the roadside at Cable Beach much better. Found that the jewelry at the hotel jewelry shop was priced as good or better than the stuff in town & the salespeople were very very accomadating & friendly. Take the tour to the garden/zoo to see the marching flamingoes. You can set that up right at Breezes, along with any other tours you might want to take. Took a taxi to Atlantis (beautiful but more formal than I'd want for a relaxing vacation) but the rest of the time took the #10 shuttle everywhere. Was only $1.00. If you get braids, make sure you tell the braider how many you want. We bargained for a price of $1.50 a braid but then didn't say how many. Cost us each $70.00!

Everyone is different & what one person likes, another may not care for but I really don't see how anyone could have a bad time (I know, some people did) at Breezes. Hope this info helped.(I probaly should have put this in a different topic, doesn't much apply to gay friendly stuff. Hope I didn't "junk up" the thread.)

Marty thank you so much for your post. Were just looking for a nice relaxed vacation, hanging out at the beach, pool and the bar. Clean rooms and good food is all you need. How much time does someone really spend in there room anyway?

Martym112 I'm glad to hear you and your party had a great time in Nassau and at Breezes. The Bahamas is, by far, my favorite place to vacation. (So far).

123Travel I agree 110% with your post. There were several gay couples staying at Breezes while we were there, and they were not mocked, made fun of or stared at either.

Unfortunately, bigotry is still alive and well in many places and among many people.

Again, I'm glad you all enjoyed your vacation.

God Bless!!
