Questiion about Paradise Island beach and others

Hello,

Just wondering the following two things:

1. I saw a video on youtube and heard that at times there are some small-moderate waves near the shore of Cabbage beach paradise island. How often are there decent small-mod waves for bodysurfing at cabbage beach?

2. What is the best beach in the Bahamas for bodysurfing?

Thanks

I don't recommend Cabbage Beach for body surfing because the surf drops off fast right at the wash and quickly goes to 12 feet and more only about 50 ft. out. If winds are onshore this shelf bottom at the wash creates a strong undertow. If onshore winds are strong many days the beach will be red flagged or closed to swimming. Offshore winds make for a calm clear surf with waves less than 6". The beach faces north so that explains the winds affecting the surf conditions.

When winds are onshore as I described above and strong, waves can be as much as 6 feet high but the undertow created by the shelf bottom can injure you easily.

Both Cabbage Beach and Cable Beach are generally quite calm. Except when there is a storm in the air.

The beaches at Cabbage Beach get closed often due to storm conditions and heavy seas. So you won't be able to body surf when the waves come in.. there's also a terrible rip tide in this area.

These's areas of the bahamas are not known for great surf.. even rolling waves are not reliable.

Some kids used skim boards at the water line.

Rip Tides are associated with sand bars, piers and jetties of which none of these are at Cabbage Beach. It's the sharp drop off shelf at the wash with water washing back out to sea that makes the surf at Cabbage Beach dangerous when large onshore waves are present.

We have rip tides in this area due to dredging, coral rock formation and other disturbances. This is NOT just the undertow at the waters edge.

We also have RIP TIDES at some of the other beaches.. such as Goodmans Bay. They are dangerous.
