What's Your Favorite...

We (2 couples) are planning our first trip to St John. I've been reading a lot of books and on-line forums and have a list of things that I want to do and see. But, no matter how much I prepare, I usually go home from a vacation with at least one thing that I wish I had known/done.

This forum has been a great source of information for me, but I'd love to gather information for a sort of "Best of St John" list. I know that these things are subjective, so a brief explanation of your choice would be helpful. That said...

What's your favorite:

villa location?

beach to relax on?

beach for snorkeling?

beautiful beach?

beach overall?

hike?

day trip/excursion?

restaurant (cheap - by St John standards)?

restaurant (moderate)?

restaurant (high end)?

bar?

thing to do on St John (other than relax and marvel at the beauty)?

recommendation for a St John newbie?

What's your favorite:

villa location?

Coral Bay with views of the East End & the BVI's

beach to relax on?

Maho Bay watching the pelicans dive

beach for snorkeling?

As of 2007, Vie's beach (but I change my mind every year)

beautiful beach?

All of them...there are no ugly beaches on STJ

beach overall?

Haulover, it's calm all the time, it's quiet, great snorkel, etc. Every year we return to it at least once.

hike?

Waaaaaayyy tooo hot to hike on STJ

day trip/excursion?

Capt George- Flyaway Charters

restaurant (cheap - by St John standards)?

Island Blues for lunch, Skinny's, Donkey Diner pizza, Beach Bar

restaurant (moderate)?

Miss Lucy's for lunch, Island Blues dinner, Cafe Roma

restaurant (high end)?

Aqua Bistro, Chateau Bordeaux, Miss Lucy's dinner

bar?

Beach Bar, Skinny's, Hightide (for drinks while watching the ferry)

thing to do on St John (other than relax and marvel at the beauty)?

Visit the plantation ruins, SNORKEL!!!!

recommendation for a St John newbie?

Learn to snorkel. Half the beauty of STJ is underwater and easily accessible. You can snorkel and see fish and coral of some degree off of every single beach. It's like swimming in an aquarium. Snorkel your brains out!

Things to do: 1. Watch pelicans dive for fish; 2. Nothing.

Snorkle: Waterlemon Cay., or Haulover north.

Hike: Reef Bay with Park Ranger guide and boat back to Cruz Bay.

Day trip: Snorkle at the Indians, relax at Jost Van Dyke Soggy Dollar bar. Or beach hop along north shore with lunch at east end.

Mod restaurant: Cafe Roma, Morgans Mango.

High end restaurant: Zozos, Tage, La Tapa ( live jazz on Mon. night).
