Curious what others consider the best hiking trail and the best beach on St. John.
Rams Head for the hike and any beach depending on wind direction and wave height...we like to snorkel
Thanks, Win. What about the most secluded beach?
I find Klein Bay to be isolated most every time we are there (Rocky beach) and it is a nice snorkel out to Ditliff Point. Parrot Beach is beautiful and few people but surfers there. Prob not a good snorkel as water is rough there most times. On the N. shore, Denis is probably on of the least populated and just lovely. Jumbie and Gibney have fewer people because of the parking situation, though some people swim to Gibney from Hawksnest.
I think Ram Head and Tektite hikes are great. The views from the Murphy House at Anaberg are prob the best on island, plus you have the great snorkeling at Waterlemon and the extensive Anaberg ruins. Great place to spend the day or at least several hours and get it all in. The Reef Bay hike is nice for seeing the woods, tree life, etc.... the water at Reef Bay isn't the best snorkel though. That takes up a good chunk of the day and pretty much all day if you go with the ranger service. We might try LaEsperance trail to Reef Bay next time for something different, supposed to be another nice hike.
For me Rams Head is favorite hike. Blue cobblestone is beach you come to and isolated and good snorkel. Do hike early in day because gets hot and need water to drink. Also Drunk bay is short hike and beautiful with all rock formations. When we go to Salt Pond usually spend all day there. The snorkeling is also good at Salt pond.
For isolated beach Kiddel and Grootpan bay rocky but quite beaches. No hiking required just have to find right road.
Short hike from Waterlemon bay to johnny horn trail up to old guard house and further up to Windy hill great view,
Short hike to Denis Bay good snorkel and long beach
Gibney if you can get one of three parking spaces at gate. Short walk.
My favorite book for information St John off the beaten track Lots of helpful information with pictures
Honeymoon, even though it requires a hike, is definetly not secluded.Edited: 10:11 pm, February 28, 2016
