This is a very abbreviated report on the first week (Oct.5-9) of our trip to St. John, I will at least link to some photos and video. Just before departure we learned of the beach closings as part of the government shutdown, we had expected facilities to be closed but not beaches.
We started planning sneak in strategies and deciding what would be the least patrolled beaches, the best surprise of the trip came Sunday morning when we learned the beaches had just been opened. many of the facilities are still closed and the Friends of the Park are negotiating to run the Reef Bay hikes with volunteers but haven't received permission to do so yet.
We stayed at Siempre Azul, located just a bit south of Miss Lucy's. The owner Chris Boyd was very helpful and easy to deal with, the property manager Bonny is a lovely person who was very energetic making out time a wonderful one.
We spent most of our time snorkeling; we visited Maho, Cinnamon, Hawksnest, Saltpond, Little Lameshur, Great Lameshur, Hansen, Haulover North, Waterlemon, and off the cobble beach in front of our villa.

I also made a few short underwater videos, they don't have any fancy editing or music but feature porcupinefish, stingrays, cowfish, and a scrawled filefish:
