Open Air Taxis

Having made a day trip to STJ a year ago from STT i am kind of familiar with the island and the way things work.

One thing I need more detail on is open air taxis. On our day trip we cabbed it up to Waterlemon and had a great day of snorkeling and fun. At day's end we were stranded--thankfully after only about 20 minutes of waiting an open air taxi came by and picked us up.

As we made our way back into Cruz Bay we met other passengers who seemed to rely on these taxis as daily transportation to the various north side beaches.

Are they that reliable? Thank you for the insights!

They are reliable to Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay and you can usually grab one going by at Hawksnest.

All other North Shore beaches are iffy so you should make arrangements in advance to have them come back and get you.

That is the reason that most people rent jeeps.
