First-time snorkelers - is a lesson worthwhile?

We'll be snorkelling for the first time on St. John. My wife is a very strong swimmer -- a real water baby! -- I'm only so-so.

Anyway, I was wondering whether we can just throw ourselves into snorkelling (within sensible reason, of course) or if an initial lesson would pay dividends in the long run.

Just got back and the snorkeling was great. I bought a exercise belt you use in the pool for my wife. (You can get them at a pool supply store) they are not a life preserver just peace of mind. She loved it. Swam every where. Also buy defogger for your mask. We used it. It gives you directions how to apply it. Worked great the whole day. Have fun
