St John in Oct? Nov? Early Dec?

We just became owners of a time share at the Westin and are going to book for Oct., Nov., or early Dec. of "08. Is there a time we should avoid due to restaurant closings or "ify" weather? Recomendations?

Thank You!

Well, October is still huriccane season so I personally would not go then. November is fine for weather but when you get into Thanksgiving it is harder to get flights and they are expensive because of the holidays. I love to go to the caribbean in early December. It is not crowded the flights are cheaper and the weather is fine - maybe the water is a tad cooler than other times of the year. I have been to St John in early December and can recommend it.

October has a higher risk of hurricanes than the other two months, but statistically, November is a little rainier than either October or December. If your schedule permits you to go in early December, that is the safest choice weather-wise. Everything should be open in either November or December.

We always go to St. John the two weeks after Thanksgiving and they're great. Generally, things are terribly crowded and all of the restaurants are open. Some of the shops don't stay open at night in Cruz Bay until the second week, but that isn't a big problem (at least for us)!

We have been to St. John twice now in October. The weather iwas always beautiful. Last year, a few rainshowers (actually downpours) at night and very little during the day. One of our most beautiful mornings mid October was the full moon upon rising when the sun was just coming up. Then we had a very brief shower with the most beautiful rainbow you have ever seen! We stayed at a very nice villa just above the Westin.

Also, yes, there were a lot of restaurants closed, but several were still open. We had such a gorgeous view of the bay and sunsets, that we ended up grilling on our lanai most nights, and using our private pool. No restaurant view would be able to top it!
