Local cuisine

We will be arriving in a few weeks. Definitely want to eat some local foods. We had a couple of placed picked out prehurricane. Miss Lucy's and Ettas. Are these places open now? Any other recommendations based on what is currently open? Thanks!

Neither are currently open. De Coal Pot and Hercules are though. Both are in Cruz Bay.

Gwen on Gifft Hill Road is open as well. She took damage, but rebuilt quickly. She is open lunchtime through afternoon. She has always been my favorite.

Does anyone know if the St. john Brewery is open? I don't see it on the list of restaurants, though its Mongoose location appears to be fully operating. We have come to enjoy eating on their little balcony. And their pizza is delicious with fresh basil from a local organic garden tended by Peter, the organizer of 8 Tuff Miles. We hooe to spend time there on our upcoming January trip.

Julie, thanks for the reminder on Gwen's. I need to check her place out net trip.

We are big fans of De Coal Pot. Its a great place to bring our friends, whether they embrace West Indian food or are more interested in something more familiar. We usually have a couple of goat curries, some oxtail, grilled snapper and something mundane on the table. Our buddies Big Red and Becky eat there 2-3 times a week when they visit.

Agree with Rick and De Coal Pot. Great food and a real nice atmosphere. Thankfully they have always had super duty air conditioning...some dishes can be spiced. But you can always let them know what "temperature" you prefer and they will surely accommodate you. The dishes are deelish.

Yes. St. John Brewers is open. The restaurant is called The Tap Room. Their store downstairs - The Brewtique - is also open.
