Bolongo Bay or Sapphire Bay

Looking at condo rental options and have leads on Watergate Villas at Bolongo Bay and one at Sapphire Bay.

For the same money, the unit at Sapphire Bay is smaller.

Please recommend the pros of one or the other if you have been to St Thomas.

We plan to rent a car.

We plan to snorkel all over once we find out where is best.

Will appreciate feedback.

thanks

There are three different condo complexes that are often referred to as Sapphire Bay.

Sapphire Village, Crystal Cove which is sometimes referred to as Saphire Bay West, and Sapphire Beach Resort and Marina. If you let us know which one you are looking at it will help us advise you.

I can tell you that as far as snorkeling, a beautiful beach, and close proximity to Red Hook any of the Sapphires is generally regarded as better than Watergate.

Sapphire over Watergate any day. If rolling out of bed and having a beautiful beach right on your doorstep with excellent snorkeling pleases you then it's a no-brainer! Disclaimer - I own at neither!

The beach at Bolongo is not as nice as Sapphire because of the somewhat rocky entry, but there are some beautiful views from Watergate. Sapphire is closer to Red Hook, whereas Bolongo is about 10 minutes away. There are, however, 3 places to eat within waking distance of the Watergate Villas: Mim's, Iggie's and Lobster Grille if you wouldn't be in the mood to drive somewhere. Iggie's also offers some nightlife with occasional live music. The way I see it, you're not in a bad location either way, just have to weigh your preferences.

I have to add that Sapphire is only about .5 miles away from Redhook which has quite a few restaurants and the ferries to St. John and the BVI's.

It is highly recommended to rent a car in St. Thomas.

There are four completely independent condominiums at Sapphire Bay.: the three recognized by BB, and Sapphire House.

Sapphire House was built concurrently with SBCW, as part of SBCW in 1969 and was intended to be employee housing . I wasn't paying much attention at the time, but for some reason this didn't work our, and it was (somehow) "sold off" as an independent condominium.
