The weather on St Thomas is excellent in February and the water is clear but there is no good snorkeling off the beach either at the Reef or at Sugar Bay. Scuba dives are taken off a boat in deeper water and there are several very highly recommended dive shops on the island. Red Hook Dive Center and Coki Dive Shop come to mind, both on the East end of the island (Red Hook DC has a desk at Sugar Bay as well).

All inclusive isn't popular here as there are tons of different restaurants in all price ranges to choose from and hotel food is, well, hotel food. I doubt that lobster is included on an AI plan.

The Reef is closer to town if shopping is on your agenda but Sugar Bay is closer to the best beaches on St Thomas and also just a short hop to Red Hook where you can take ferries for day trips to St John or the British Virgin Islands.

Wherever you decide to stay you should figure a rental car into your budget at least for several days so you can get out and about and explore. There's a ton of information right here on this site to help with your planning and the forum search engine is very navigable - just check the "date" option for easier reading.

Thanks!

Is The F. Reef close to any good beaches? Is it far to get to the docks to go to St. John's

or to get to Red Hook Dive? Good dive shop from F. Reef?

I heard they renivated ..Sugar Bay good for 20 year olds who like good beach, some entertainment and nice pool?

The beach at the Reef isn't bad, in fact it's a lovely beach - just not much for the snorkeling. The best beaches for snorkeling are on the East end of the island; Sapphire, Secret Harbour and Coki (the only caveat being that on heavy cruise ship days Coki is very busy) and they're all a 15-20 minute drive from the Reef. I believe there is a dive shop either at or close to the Reef but I'm not familiar with it although 'm sure that the Reef personnel will be able to tell you.

Here's a link to the ferry schedule:

www.vinow.com/general_usvi/interisland_ferry/

As you'll see the Red Hook/St John (no "s") ferry has a regular passenger schedule on the hour every hour up until midnight and, as long as you don't rent from Hertz which doesn't allow their vehicles to be taken to St John, you can also take your rental car over there on the car barge. Again, the drive to Red Hook will take about 15-20 minutes. There is also a downtown (Charlotte Amalie) passenger ferry (no car barge) to St John but its schedule is far more limited. You can hop on the Reef's little "Reefer" ferry (I believe it's $6 per person) to the waterfront and walk to the ferry from there.

The Reef is in the final stages of renovation and the rooms and the main restaurant which have been refurbished are scheduled to reopen on October 4th.

Sugar Bay has an OK beach and lots of activities, plus it's only a few minutes drive to Red Hook which has a lot of bars and restaurants for night life.

Actually if you snorkel to the left when entering the water and continue around the corner you will find some really nice snorkeling. Not much in the way of corals but lots and lots of sea life. We snorkeled from Bluebeards Beach Club over to the Marriot. In fact found quite a few lobster near the Marriot.

It isn't that far to snorkel all the way to Bluebeards Beach Club and you wont be disappointed. We saw a large eagle ray and a very large manta ray in that area.

Enjoy.

We dove Coki Beach and the reef was very good. Bad thing was all the day trippers off the cruise ships. If you go, do it on a day when there are no ships in port. We dove with Coki Dive Shop.
