We're going to Buc versus Carambola - our plans

Just wanted to let you all in on our decision, after a huge dilemma and many hours reading your posts. Thanks to everyone who provided their feedback on their experiences.

We were really torn b'tween Buc and Caram. Ultimately, we decided on the Buc because of it's close proximity to everything on the island. We didn't want to be too remote and that was our main reason. We thought that the value was better at the C and likely to be less kids; but Jan isn't a real busy month for people w/families.

We also liked the idea of walking all over the place on the resort property and it seemed there was a lot of variety of where we could walk to - and felt our high teen handicaps would be more suited to the Buc's course. If we're feeling adventurous we'll check the c's course out as it looks cool.

We rented only a mountainview room, but we don't plan to be in our rooms much; We are also going to rent a jeep and explore the other beaches to snorkel and do some hiking. We don't like "canned" types of things, so the culture and no nightlife are right up our alley, but nor do we want to sit on the beach all day. We will probably check out the casino at least. If anyone has any other input, we'd appreciate it. It's not too late to change hotels.

I think you made the right decision. My niece honeymooned at the Buc this past February in a mountainview room and they were very happy with it. The management even offered to upgrade them but after looking at the mountainview room they didn't even go check out what the upgrade would have been. (big mistake in my opinion, but they're young and probably mainly had their minds on the honeymoon part...) They also enjoyed walking all around the property and checking out the beaches. You can't beat the Bucanneer's breakfast buffet. I hope the Terrace is open for Jan, great atmosphere having breakfast in the morning with that Caribbean breeze and island view below.

You're smart to get a jeep. Make sure you go down north shore road by Cane Bay and on to the Carambola. We like to have breakfast there and walk the beach. Beautiful area even if it's somewhat isolated.

We have a 'chance' to go back to St Croix for the month of Feb!! So many things have to fall in place just right that I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and praying hard. I hope the Terrace is open by then. Have a great time!

I think you made the right decision given what was important to you and the views from the Buccaneer's golf course (which I try to walk most days while we're there) are gorgeous.

I won't be surprised if they offer you an upgrade to an oceanview room if you're there during a less crowded time.

Were/are you able to take advantage of the $250/person air credit deal that they are offering. Think you have to stay 7 nights. Somewhere else on this forum is the info for that.

And for the question about eating breakfast at the TErrace Room, I got a PM from someone who was recently at the Buccaneer and they stated that the renovations were to be completed "within a few weeks". So I think all of us going anytime from T'giving on will be able to enjoy the renovations.

Paula and CCrosner - thanks for your responses and additional suggestions.

I posted elsewhere about the airfare savings deal, which we were not able to take advantage of the discount because of some vouchers we have from delta. they would not allow us to get the discount and use the vouchers on a bundle because delta vacations isn't able to do that....thought it unfortunate, however.

when calling the Buc we were able to get another 5% off -

and it's about the same when doing the bookings separately vs the package. it would have been nice to save more $$ on flights, however. From MSP via Delta it is spen-DY!!!
