Hiking in St. Croix

Hello all!

My boyfriend and I are traveling to St. Croix for the first time in a week. We are going to be staying in Christianstead, but are going to get a rental car so that we can travel. We are very active and would like to go hiking at some point on our trip. Does anyone have suggestions of where to go?

Also, we like to enjoy a nice, cold drink. Any restaurant/bar suggestions would be wonderful as well! We are hoping to find places that are not so much touristy, we want to get a vibe for the local culture! Any guidance with sites to see and things to do would be great:)

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hike from Carambola to the tidal pools. When you get there climb over the rocks on your left and swim in the pools. Another nice hike is the one to Jacks and Isaacs Bays on the east end. Good swimming and snorkeling. For more suggestions contact the hiking club.

There are lots of little beach bars - too many to list. Be sure to go to the Domino Club and the Chicken Shack if you want local flavor.

CrapGroupie's suggestions are great and if you would like a "guided tour" I highly recommend Poppa John. http://hikestcroix.com/ He provides a variety of hiking adventures and is very informative at the same time. St. Croix is very laid back so finding a nice casual non-touristy bar should not be a problem. Hope you enjoy your stay but be prepared to fall in love with the island.

Yep, the Domino Club and the Chicken Shack are the locals fancy and where you want to be. AFA as bars, might as well just fill your cooler at Plaza Extra with Caribe and Presidente and head for all the spots like the rain forest, Jack's, Grapetree Bay and the east side (there is no open-container law in STX). The little bars in Christiansted are quaint, but we found they couldn't even deliver good low-season bar food after 3 attempts during our two weeks..hitting a couple more islands since then show it's not an STX issue, but rather the laws of economics in play...ENJOY!

In Christiansted, try Luncheria for drinks and GREAT Mexican food with a St Croix twist. It is outside dining in a beautiful courtyard of buildings built in the early 1800's....and go ahead and feed the chickens your left over chips!!

There's a Rastafarian cafe in Christensted. I think it's Ital Trinity on King Street. Great place to get local beverages and vegetarian food. Definitely not touristy.

Check http://www.stcroixhiking.org has info on hiking trails.
