Which Island for July 2010? Do I need a car?

Hello guys, I am planning a trip with my bf in July 2010 for 6 or 7 days. We enjoy beaches, water sports, sightseeing/exploring, and some shopping. \

Which island; St. Croix, St. Thomas, St John is best for that, especially for the beaches?

If we stay in one of the islands, are the other islands within travelling distance?

One more thing, do you recommend to rent a car? Thanks!

The islands are very different from each other and you should really do some basic research which is available right here at your fingertips on TA. St Thomas and St John are only a 20 minute ferry ride away from each other with the British Virgin Islands just 45 minutes away. St Croix is further afield and island-hopping really isn't an option with that island as your home base - but it absolutely has its own unique charm.

On all the islands it's recommended that you rent a car in order to fully explore. Taxi fares are regulated and charge per person, There are innumerable posts on the subject.

Your first step is to research each island, second to research the forum using the search engine for particulars. Happy researching and do come back with more specific questions once you've narrowed down the choices - and I should add that you shouldn't forget Water Island which is now the fourth US Virgin Island! Cheers!

For what you want to do, St. John sounds like your best option.
