First time visit.

Hi All

I know I will be asking the same old questions about my proposed stay in Tobago but I will be very gratefull for any comments and tips offered.

My wife and I are staying at the Coco Reef for two weeks in May, we are staying B&B only with the intention of travelling around for days out and trying different places to eat.

Having read many comments on food i hope I am right in thinking there will be a good choice for lunch and dinner within walking distance and the area is safe to venture out in the eveing for meals.

If anyone can comment on the cost of food and drink at the Coco Reef when not on the All Inclusive this would also be helpful as some days it may be nice to stay at the resort,

we are very much a couplr that like to explore and not just stay sunning ourselves at a resort all day so any tips for travel around and places to see would be great.

I have read a few reports on crimes against tourists but many more reports on great trouble free holidays so would like to think as long as you are sensible, as in any country, there should be little threat of trouble but again any feedback welcome.

Thanks to those who will take the time to reply and I look forwrd to posting a reveiw on our return.

Kind Regards

KPD1965

Thanks Phil N

There are many places in England I would walk around at night to visit restaurants and bars but also have their own horror tales of crime and law breaking.

I do not expect any place to be a perfect crime free destination but if I was told by many people do not walk down this road after dark or there is a high chance of trouble I would take note.

Looking forward to my holiday

Overstated based on his own experience. Issues? yes! But there are issues everywhere.

Back on topic now- can't speak for Coco Reef prices other than I have heard they are a bit more expensive than outside the compound. There are numerouse places to eat in the immediate area (within walking distance). If you like Roti, I recommend the Roti House across from Coco Cafe. Best to check out www.mytobago.info under the Restaurants column.....lots of information there. You can also access cocoreef.com/index.php/tour-our-hotel/dining but they don't give prices. On Mytobago they give you a fair idea of prices and quality....most of which I agree with from my own experience.

Definitely do a jaunt around the island as the scenery is beautiful....especially in the north. If you are a bit squeamish about driving, you can hire a driver for the day....ask at the hotel desk and they can set you up.

A little place called Kings Bay Cafe has awesome views and great food-check hours tho. Also I recommend a quaint little place called Shore Things on the west side (also listed)...good food, service and prices are not bad....great desserts! I always enjoy a boat trip with either Dexter or Island Girl.....just great to get out on the water and explore......and they usually wrap up the trip with a beach BBQ and some drinks.

Going to Castara and Englishmans Bay is a must as well. The Boathouse in Castara (right on the beach) served us up a nice meal last trip down(Feb). Hope you enjoy Tobago as much as myself and my family do!

cheers!

Food and drink in close proximity to cocoa reef. You can get lunch for about £2.00 each and dinner upwards of that. Car hire about £30 per day and safe to drive around. When you go out take about 100tt approx £10,with you as that will be enough for food and soft drinks but if you hire car make sure you have full tank- about £10 as petrol stations few and far between.Do not wear any gold, hide your phones and cameras and do not flash your money or bank cards as the locals do not have much. You will be fine, enjoy it!!
