Hilton Trinidad as a base for vacation

We are considering this hotel as we are Hilton Honors members and can stay here very reasonably. Any feedback as to how this location is as a base to rent a car and tour the island? Is it close by or within walking distance to places?

Thanks

It is as close as any of the other alternatives. It is set on a hill overlooking the Savannah (a large area like a park where locals play sports in the afternoons) at the north edge of the capital city, Port Of Spain.

The island is approx 40 miles by 60 miles so no where is far from anywhere. But the traffic is horrendous which is what makes it take long to get around. Downtown is about a mile with many shops but you would probably want to visit a few of the malls and for that you need the car. A half hour drive will get you to Maracas Bay which is popular for sea bathing and for the bake and shark sandwich.

The more popular place for tourists is the sister island of Tobago which you can get to either by plane (a 20min ride) or ferry (a 2 hour plus ride).
