Liat/Svg

Hi again - well thanks for your help a few months ago finding our accomodation, we ended up booking Sweet Mango for our stay in April/May 2013!

Thoughts have now turned to getting to Bequia! We're flying via Barbados on BA from Gatwick. Does anyone have any particular thioughts on SVG (Direct) or LIAT (via SVD) - the difference in cost is nominal when I look at our preferred direct LIAT flights and the departures for SVG are pretty good times as well.

Does anyone have any hints or particukar opinions either way?

Thanks

Nige

This is swings and round abouts, SVG air will get you into Bequia on the same day, Liat will get you into StVincent the same day, but you will miss the last ferry , so have to stay the night! So what ever floats your boat . Hope this helps.

Definitely use SVG! LIAT is prone to leave early, late or not at all, usually without informing their passengers. More & more of my friends & acquaintances are using SVG now rather than LIAT. Another benefit from SVG is that when you arrive in Barbados, someone from SVG will be just inside the airport with a sign containing your name. You then check in at the SVG desk, give them your baggage tags and then you are escorted directly to the departure lounge. No immigration, security, etc.

SVG direct to Bequia is my choice every time, It's so much easier and more convenient to go direct and as you say the price difference is nominal.

I echo the recommendation of SVG. I did SVG to Bequia and Liat from St Vincent on my return. Someone told me once I was already on the island that Liat stood for "Luggage in Another Terminal" and that certainly proved true. Quite the experience of tracking down my bag when I was back in the States. I felt worse for those flying back to London in the same boat, full plane because they combined two flights and no luggage loaded.

SVG every time. BUT do ensure you have sufficient transit time because if you are late in you may get on the SVG flight but your luggage may not.

Luggage will come next day or two so be prepared and have some clothes in your hand luggage. Oh and to help the process make sure your hold luggage is readily identifiable/labelled because the SVG people go and collect it for you.

We always travel with BA with onward travel to Bequia with SVG. In all the years we have been coming to Bequia via this route, BA has only been delayed once ! There's normally plenty of time to connect with SVG. Look out for the guy with a clip board outside immigration - he will have your name on his board. Report to him and he will point the way to SVG check-in.

As said before, make sure your hold luggage is clearly labelled in order for SVG staff to identify it quickly.

Enjoy Bequia, it's a special place.

Hi All,

We've decided to take the overwhelming advice and go with SVG, just much simpler all round and gives us an extra day in Bequia! So BA to Barbados and then find the SVG guy with our clearly marked bags ;o)

Thanks again for your helpful contributions.

Just to clarify. You won't have your hold luggage with you when you meet the SVG guy - they will be offloaded by BA and SVG will collect them from the luggage carrousel. You will not be collecting your hold luggage.

So mark them clearly before checking in at Gatwick.

Yep - understood, thanks. We've been in touch with SVG via e-mail and all very clear.

Sounds like you are all sorted there with some very good advice; be aware if you are not being met at the airport you will require a taxi. Hope you have a wonderful time on Bequia. I Can't wait until my next trip back.
