Looking for the perfect island

Re-posting here since SVG is high on our list -

After a not so great meeting with a travel agent yesterday (immediately pushed Sandals - others on St. Lucia just "aren't up to snuff, has she heard of Jade Mountain?!, never asked our budget, interests, etc.), we are back to the drawing board. I've been reading the forums here for several weeks trying to narrow things down and I need more help! Originally wanted St. Lucia in the Soufriere region, still considering that. Will still work thru an agent, but want a firm idea for a resort/location in mind.

Stats: mid-20s husband/wife, 8 nights in June 2013, $6k budget, flying from Chicago. Previously honeymooned at Couple San Souci and liked the vibe/accommodations/food/drink but not the beach/activities. Looking for a mix of lounging on the beach/snorkeling and checking out things on the island. Would want to stay at a resort vs. condo or rental.

List of "wants" in somewhat of an order:

Great beach

Snorkeling off beach/very close by

Great food/frozen drinks

Nature/History-related activities nearby (Pitons, Fort Rodney, National Parks)

Prefer AI (if not, would want great food at local restaurants to try)

More secluded, tropical feel

Adults only

List of "don't care/don't need"

Sports/Entertainment on-site (think basketball, casino night)

Fishing, sailing, diving.

I know this is pretty specific, but I'm trying to narrow it down and find what hits the majority. Islands I'm continually considering are St. Lucia, USVI (John & Croix, mostly), Caymans, St. Vincent, and others depending on the day! Specific resort recommendations are MUCH appreciated!

If your able to re-think the no 'sailing' I think you could have a great time. There are plenty of skippered charters with catering so you can access everywhere have to be with no one - except the crew. Try barefoot Yacht Charters, TMM and Sunsail all in Blue Lagoon on St Vincent. I will be bakc for 2 months in July and August - the low season so will be interested in the tips above.

Visit our stunning Buccament Bay beach resort in St Vincent. I think you will find all the amenities that you're looking for. You're greeted with a welcome cocktail. They offer an amazing sunset cruise, scuba diving, kayaking, & other activities. There are several restaurants, live entertainment, gift shops, pool and a spa located on the premises.

Like DW said - if you can make it past the sailing thing... That really is the best way to experience these islands! I run a sailing school and skippered charter service and would be happy to help you book a sailing vacation (www.LtdSailing.com).

Otherwise - I would check out Sugar Reef in Bequia. Beautiful spot to spend a few days! www.sugarreefbequia.com.
