Peak Heaven

Peak Heaven is an outstanding destination for lunch, or an evening group (reservations needed) for dinner. It is a "must see" while on Nevis. Why? It is literally half way up Mt. Nevis by a reasonable road and offers an almost 270 degree look-out to the south west, entirely south and the south east. You can see Redonda Island as well as Monserrat...its a huge view! In addition to a delightfully unexpected cafe, there are nature walks and picnic areas. It is also the trail-head for hiking up Mt. Nevis...a guide is necessary! This is a truly tropical rain forest environment where a guide is essential. Lovely people, great views unobtainable elsewhere and (according to my wife) very decent toilet facilities. Signs on the road (nearing Golden Rock Hotel, in Gingerland) are in black with white lettering. You gotta see this place. Cheers, Richard.

On island now - is Peak Heaven at Golden Rock? If not can you give more info on where it is? Unfortunately we only have 2 days left in our 2 week visit here.

Driving from Charlestown, east on the main road, up the hills, you will pass Montellier Planation Inn and Botanical Garden signs...then pass Hermitage Inn signs as you continue up the hill into Gingerland, still on the main road. Assuming normal driving, about 10 more minutes, you will enter the main portion of the Gingerland community (schools, health centre, police station, etc.), all located on the main road. You should see the small, black signs with white lettering for Peak Heaven. Turning up the mountain you will see more Peak Heaven signs. If you drive too far on the main road, you'll find the sign for Golden Rock Plantation Inn, about 5 minutes drive too far. If in doubt, ask someone or take a taxi. And, if you're already in the area, the Golden Rock is worth a visit as well...beautiful grounds and cottage units. Hope that helps. You will not be disappointed. Take camera and binoculars if you have them. Cheers, Richard.

Thanks Richard,

Peak Heaven sounds outstanding. I am surprised I haven't heard of it before.

We're planning to go to Nevis via a Catarmaran trip while in St. Kitts starting a week from today, but that clearly won't be enough time to see it.

Maybe we'll take the ferry over for a day.

Sorry we missed you this year.

Joe

We were there two years back. Great restaraunt, fun playground for the kids excellant history ans stories of Nevis.

Heading into Gingerland turn left near police station, before beekeepers assoc, if I remember correctly. Keep driving up the mountain until you can't drive anymore. Signs are small.
