Jewelry Shopping in St. Kitts

I need to get a nice anniversary gift for my wife while in St. Kitts (diamonds). Is there good jewelry shopping there ... maybe near a cruise ship pier? Any recent buyers have a recommendation?

I went to a shopping briefing while on a Carnival Cruise. The Carnival "shopping specialist" (yes, that's their actual title/job description) gave a very convincing talk on Desires jewelry store St.Kitts . During the talk they described the specialists role in going to shop at Desires to make sure that "you were happy with your purchase and were not ripped off" by unscrupulous jewelry merchants. It was a very elaborate and convincing setup. As a part of the Carnival family they wanted to make sure that you had a positive shopping experience because a negative shopping experience in port would have a negative affect on your overall Carnival experience. "We do not want you to go home with any regrets. Our job it to make sure that does not happen." I bought that hook, line and sinker!! I was given a special shopping "discount" pass and a time to meet the store owner at DESIRES . My sister and I met Haresh , at the designated time. The owner and Taryn did give me a good price at the store, but not to my benefit. I was definitely too trusting. The two diamond rings that I purchased at 70%, according to them, appraised at below my purchase price in the U.S. The color and cut were not the color, quantity or quality stated in the varification documents given to me at the con-clusion of my purchase. In fact, I had paid ABOVE full U.S. retail for the rings. Needless to say I am very disappointed with DESIRES and myself for buying into their complicitous con act. AGAIN BUYER BEWARE!!!

I purchased a morganite ring from Dynasty Jewelers in Ketchikan for $1,950.00. I was told that the gemstone came with a GIA certificate and that the person who handled the certificates was on vacation and that the certificate would be emailed to me. I have not received it and have contacted both locations by phone many times since my return and no one will give me any information. I am always told that the manager is with a client or out to lunch and they will return my call when they are available. No one has ever called back and I still have not received the certificate.

They told me that they have a store in St.Kitts called Desires so I sent the ring today with my sister so that they could get it appraised . They refused to make the appraisal saying since the ring was purcahsed in Alaska the problem can be resolved only in Alaska. I do not understand why ?? as the owner is the same and he was the one who sold me the ring. He was instead trying to sell another ring to my sister who had to literally run out of the store as they were very pushy and felt very uncomfortable with a short man around her with beetle nut stained teeth . He stood no more then 4 feet from the ground and it was very difficult to not step on him and walk around. My husband met this short man when we were in Alaska he was the owner.

His breath smelt like an alcoholic and he said since his schedule was very stressful and as it was very cold in Alaska he would have a drink here and there. I was instructed by the port lecturer to shop with them and I was an easy target . I am scared to get this ring even appraised as I do not think this even Morganite but just a piece of glass that is loosing color over time. I want to return this ring and get my money back.

The short man is like a Leprachaun who just wants you to spend , spend and spend!!!! DYNASTY & DESIRES ARE RUN BY SAME FAMILY WHO ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL AND NEED TO VISIT A DENTIST BADLY !!!

I can not understand why anyone would purchase expensive jewelry in a cruise port. I have a local jeweler who I can trust. These stories always amaze me.

I am from St. Kitts. My girlfriend bought me a supposed "sterling silver" necklace from RICHIES DIAMOND GALLERY. In less than a week, the silver turned to a yellow, very nasty color. We took it back and wanted a refund (it was expensive) and he kept saying he can't give a refund. We were upset and he offered us a replacement necklace. GUESS WHAT? That broke in two after hardly being worn! NEVER AGAIN.

So many bad reviews on shopping at St. Kitts. well, Let me be one to bring some good news. My wife and I arrived on St. Kitts and we visited a store named Colors. We were the only one's in the store for quite sometime, and we grew skeptical.

Well, we purchased a 3/4 carat diamond ring and a Movado watch at a great price. My wife had the ring sized at the store. However, due to re-sizing the diamond fell out when we were departing. Ugg. Well, I contacted Nick, who eased my skeptisim and informed me that the ring was under warranty and I could mail the ring to their repair facility in New York. We did so and the ring was fixed. We recently had the ring looked at by a jewelry who stated that the ring was a good piece.

Next time..go to colors and ask for Nick, the manager. Also, be ware that most of the jewlers have sub companies in New York. I heard of one lady buying a ring in St. Kitts and every other diamond was fake. I will only shop at Colors

I'm amused and sadden by people's experiences..I have NOT a had a good experience buying jewelry on my past cruises. In 2009, I have purchased two tanzanites rings from DI, both of them were "color enhanced" after I had had them appraised. Again, I followed what the cruise ship recommended to use a vendor so are protected. Well, I was left in the dark with Carnival AND DI (Tanzanite INTL and Diamond INTL) are both a scam. Many calls to New York who handles the issues and NOTHING resolved. I did charge the purchases with my American Express and American Express came to my rescue and refunded my money. I sent back the rings after months of many calls to both cruise ship and DI plus I called my attorney. BUYER BEWARE...I could of been out 6,000. I will not purchase jewelry from my trips..not sterling, not gold NOTHING. Bad practices and dishonest people out there.

Returned recently from Royal Caribbean cruise and my husband and I went to several jewelers in town not looking for anything in particular. We went to Richie's fine jewelry store after buying souvenirs passing through their rear store. After looking the beautiful rings on display one of the salesman which was very polite was shoeing me all of the jewelry I wanted. He wasn't pushy at all just very helpful. After I liked a black & white diamond ring very much he then brought Mr. Richie over to talk w/me. Unlike the comments above he was very professional and did work a price a price with me . After my sale and waiting for my ring to be sized they offered my friends & I drinks to sit on the couch and couldn't make us all comfortable enough. Don't get me wrong that definitely want to make a sale that's their business but my husband & I felt Mr. Richie was very professional and felt very confidant in my choice of trusting him . I would highly recommend this fine jewelry store and am very happy with my beautiful high quality ring in which he gave me an appraisal. As a matter of fact I am trying to convince my husband to buy me this gorgeous yellow diamond ring I saw upon exiting the store ( his sister designed it) Mr. Richie let me take pictures of it on my finger. I was in awe how beautiful this ring was and surprised at the cost. Thanks to Mr. Richie and his staff.
