Top 5 restaurants for foodies - GO!

We're headed that way come October and we LOVE TO EAT good food. It doesn't have to be fancy either - but local, fresh, fantastic. Yes, we'll probably go to Blue just because I have no plans to ever be near another of his restaurants and why not? But we're going to be there a week and we need to have some 'experiences.' Late 30's, married, kids staying at home! Both love seafood, not afraid to be adventurous either. Suggestions welcome!

My top 5 are Blue, Taikun, Ortanique, Calypso Grill, and Grand Old House.

Many are sying Calypso Grill is no longer a gave of theirs but I have been twice in the last two months and I still love it.

Definitely Brasserie, and Grand Old House & Cracked Conch

I like Calypso Grille except for the fact that every plate has the same potato & vegetable. Not very creative.

Not much of a hotel-restaurant-frequenter.

I'll add to the list.

Michael's Genuine, Morgan's Harbour, and Heritage Kitchen if you're looking for something more authentic.

Self-confessed foodie, here!

We'll assume (since you don't say in this thread) that you are staying on or near Seven Mile Beach, and don't want to be driving across the island for dinner.

If you want the high-end, then I would go with Blue, Luca, and Osetra Bay

Mid-range, I would go to Agua, Blue Cilantro, Grand Old House, Tiki Beach (evenings only), Michael's Genuine, and Ortanique

And in the local and tasty category, I would pick Macabuca, Chicken! Chicken!, Heritage Kitchen, Kaibo Beach BBQ (with the free sunset boat ride from Camana Bay) and if you want real local, Welly's Cool Spot (do this for lunch).

I know that's more than five, but different people like different things.

I presume you already know about the excellent resources at http://caymangoodtaste.com - if not, you can find sample menus and locations there.

All good suggestions and I would add Ragazzi for modestly priced but wonderful Italian cuisine. Some of the best Neopolitan pizza I've had.

Had two wonderful lunches at Craft (new). I prefer Morgan's Harbour to Calypso Grille (but heard they might be closing :(), I would say Blue, Luca, Morgan's Harbour, Ortanique, Michael's etc are among favourites. Also like Karma. Missed Mizu again but have heard great things about that. Love Taikun and had an absolutely wonderful dinner at Seven last week (first time for me). Keep in mind that in October many restaurants are closed as it is slow season. That might be especially true of Blue and Seven. Love Ragazzi which is the same owners as Luca (and in a discussion recently about someone who frequents both, was told that the same bottle of wine is $10 cheaper at Ragazzi than Luca). Luca is slightly more upscale and has a better location, but the food at both is wonderful.

Please stop everyone. You're making me hungry!

If there's any take-away here it should be to go to http://caymangoodtaste.com and decide for yourself which of the numerous outstanding restaurants you'd like to try. Also, you might have been looking for lunch and dinner suggestions but Sunday Brunch at Luca is amazing.

Lunch suggestions:

Conch sampler at Macabuca in West Bay

If you plan to rent a car to tour the island:

Lionfish tacos and/or End End ceviche at Eagle Rays/Ocean Frontiers (East End)

Fried lobster, turtle steak or daily [seafood] special at Over the Edge (Old Man Bay)

Daily fish special (Cayman style) at Kurts Korner (Old Man Bay)
