1 day stop in March cruise

Hi we arrive early in the morning and the boat leaves at 6pm.

Any suggestions on what me and my wife should do on our day on Tortola.

midge, it depends what you enjoy doing. Your cruse ship will have a # of options. A lot of passengers will end up on Cane Garden Bay for the day. If you only have one day in the BVI, then you might want to consider visiting the Baths on Virgin Gorda instead of staying on Tortola. If you want to see Tortola and are comfortable driving, I'd consider renting a car for the day and touring the island at your own pace - first go from Road Town to the West End, where there are a # of shops and restaurants at Soper's Hole. then drive from WE to the beaches along the north shore, where there are also more restaurants and shops. That road eventually becomes Ridge Road, where you'll see some of the most dramatic views in the entire Caribbean. You'll have the option to continue on that road to the East End, or return to Road Town. If you like to shop, there are a # of stores in RT.

It sounds like you have a longer day in port than most folks, if you have 9 - 10 hrs you're very lucky. Although Tortola is our favorite island, we usually recommend those new to the BVI visit the Baths on Virgin Gorda as part of their first experience. The Baths are a unique formation you won't find elsewhere in the Carib to the best of my knowledge.

If you are in port long enough (youndidn't say what time you dock) you may be able to take a daysail that stops at the Baths as part a longer tour. There are a few to choose from including Aristocat and Patouche (dot coms). Joe at Patouche actually has a cat sail to the Baths that works well for folks with a little more time in port. Just a thought...

If you're more interested in an island tour Tortola is gorgeous. The itinerery alashas described is pretty easy to drive, you won't encounter any real steep and winding roads until you head up Windy Hill Rd. it can be a little daunting heading into CGB for those not accustomed to steeper grades but definitely driveable? A great spot for lunch is the Bananakeet halfway up Windy Hill, the views from there are incomparable. A taxi tour for 2 - 3 hrs is also an option, here are the taxi rates (bottom of page for tours).
