St. Maarten or other island for handicapped

I've been searching the internet for a birthday vacation for my husband. He is in a wheelchair, and would need a hotel that is accessible. In particular one with a roll in shower. All hotels say they are accessible but then turn out to be not! He mentioned St. Maarten, and the last time he was there was over 15 years ago. We will be traveling with our son, who is 6, and another couple and their two boys. We went to St. Johns and St. Thomas a few years back and didn't have the best experience, so we want to stay away from there. St. Maarten is our first pick. We are not gamblers but wouldn't mind taking in a casino night. We do love to eat, and would probably spend most of our time by the pool or the beach. Thanks for any info! We will be traveling in mid Feb.

While doing some preliminary research for one of my wife's clients who is also wheelchair bound I emailed the Sonesta Maho who said that they have accessable rooms. I do not know about the shower however as it was not an in depth inquiry. You can call their 800 number at: 1-800 223-0757.

Why don't you contact the Grand Case Beach Club and inquire about their accomodations...Also, don't know where you stayed on St. Thomas, but I believe Secret Harbour Resort has handicapped accessible rooms and on St. John Caneel Bay (very expensive) would have accessible rooms. However, I don't know if any of them how accessible showers. That might be a problem.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking into both hotels. My experience with St. Thomas and St. John was a sick one. I was there for a wedding, and had fun for 4 out of the 3 days because I came down with some virus that other guests also came down and was in my room extremely sick. We were staying at Caneel Bay, very nice I just wish I didn't get sick. As far as St. Thomas, I just thought it was dirty and not all that it seemed to be.
