beach snorkeling

going to st. martin for first time jan. 3; i know that the snorkeling doesn't compare to some of the other places we have been, but still in all, if we want to be able to go in from beach and do some snorkeling, on a daily basis, where is the best place to stay?

any suggestions will be much appreciated; i know we should probably visit anguilla for one day and ile pinlet; but where should we stay for the week? considering grand case (a little b&b) becasue we heard there is some snorkieling right in front of GCBC. any other suggestions?

thanks so much-

In additiuon to the suggestions from the link Little Bay offers a very nice gentle beach with decent snorkling.

There are two hotels on Little Bay - Divi and Belair.

They share the entire beach front and you can stay at one and dine at the other if you so choose. The views are outstanding and you can walk up to the old Fort Amsterdam at the top of the hill from the Divi property.

A short video prepared by Divi a couple of years ago detaining the renovations and upgrading of the property.

I saw from your previous post that you will have a car and that opens up a lot of options for snorkeling.

On SXM

Baie Rouge - facing the water, to the right past the rocks is an arch in the distance you can swim to and through; on the other side is more coral (the coral is not in good shape overall and it will depend on the day what you see - some days good - some not; but the beach is also nice for spending time on

Pinel Island

Orient Bay - reef near Pedro's

Dawn Beach - by Oyster Pond; reef just off shore

Mullet Bay - near the ruins, North of the Bay

Friar's Bay

Grand Case - 5 minute boat ride out to Creole rock

Anguilla

Shoal Bay East - long reef just off shore (good spots are by Gwen's and near Elodia's)

Also, the day trip to Prickly Pear off of Anguilla by catamaran is one of the best locations for snorkeling and a great day (the Lambada, Swaliga)

If you stay at Divi there is good snorkling of the beach in Little Bay. Good snorkling is also at the Pelican/Flamingo beach in Simpson bay that are also good places to stay within a short distance to restaurants and nightlife.

For all of you snorklers...

There is a photo on the page linked - if you move your mouse around the photo you should find 16 fish hiding in the water and an identification quiz (with answers).

Bobcat, great little treat. Can't wait for May to blow my bubbles in SXM. Thanks.
