Walking at night and safety issues in Simpson Bay

We are staying at LaSiesta condos in Simpson Bay (closer to the bridge) for the first time. Can anyone tell me if it's safe to walk to the main road, along with the bars and restraunts in the area, at night? We've read quite a few posts about safety issues but we don't want to have to drive after a night of drinking either. Any information would be appreciated - thanks!

No guarantees - it is a residential area, but quiet and dark after the sun goes down. I'm not sure just how far you intend to walk. It is a long stretch of restaurants, bars, retail shops, casinos. Near the bridge is a police sub station that is usually not very active.

I suggest you check out the area the first or second night and see if it can be done. If not it is a short taxi ride to many of the local area restaurants, etc.

The main road (Airport Rd on the airport side of the bridge and Welfare Rd. on the other side of it) it very well populated with cars, people and lights. I wouldn't worry about safety (other than watching out for cars) too much.

We have timeshare at Royal Palm, right at the bridge..we walk everywhere from there during the day and at night.. never have had a problem or felt threatened..we have walked on beach at night, to dinner, casinos, up to the Flamingo, to markets..no problems... Just be smart, like you would anywhere!!

Would not recomend walking at night on the beach. Best to stay on the well traveled roads.

We stayed at in the area last year and will be again in Feb. All the main streets are busy and I felt safe. The road behind the condo's(airport road i think) is not well lit but we walked it every night with no incidents.

It is not a run down area by any means but it is a dark area at night so you keep your eyes and wits about you as you would on any dark street. I would not recommend to much late night walking on the beach as that would be a vulnerable area.

I posted some US State Dept warnings on this issue last week-go to the website or any Google search and put in St.Marteen safety (or any Island)-very interesting and gives you a head's up-no where is paradise so be smart and always be with somone never alone

Leaving Sunday for my trip, staying at Beachside Villas. It looks like that Karakter place is less than a mile down the beach and walking is the only option aside from driving all the way around the far side of the airport. It also looks like Sunset Bar is real close as well, so should I really be concerned walking at night?
