You can book at the airport or at most hotels. Of course it can be a hassle going from booth to booth looking for their best deal after a long flight - better is to book on line, have your confirmation in hand for the car you want at the price you like.

We use Hertz, largest fleet of cars and liabilty coverage is included in the rental rate on Sint Maarten - use a discounter on line - have a confirmation - take the 5 minute shuttle ride to their car lot and you're on your way.

I love to hassle with the locals at the airport!! you can get a good price. i'm never worried what condition the car is in. it's only a car to get from beach to beach/ bar to bar. you get my drift?? Have a Great time. i'll be there 11/15/09. i hope the sunset bar is rebuilt.

As bobcat & clj have pointed out, a car rental can easily be done either way. Depends on your preference. After a hectic week at work (usually) before I go, late night packing and getting up early with long flight time, I like the ease of pre-arranging the car. Less hassle for me and I am quickly on my way. Here are a couple good agencies to consider (along with Hertz):

http://www.unitycars.com/

http://www.tripleacarrentals.com/terms.htm

While your credit card will likely cover CDW, it is always good to get Liability too, as bobcat suggests. And, as is said often, never leave anything in you car - even to run into a grocery store quickly. Think about whether just one of you will drive the whole time or if you want someone else to share the driving when you draw up the contract.

I am going Dec. 26th and looking for a rental car as well. At this point I booked with Budget. Anyone know of any issues with this company?

Just returned and rented from Europcar for the first time. They offered a discount for internet prepayment and basically got a Corolla for $18/day. Get the besat deal you can on Expedia or Travelocity. They are all the same. And yes, rent before you go.
