Perhaps they meant that if you rent it, it's for a mandatory 3 days to get the price?

I agree, there are much better deals out there.

The rental is included with the Transat package however you are not obliged to use it and pay the obligatory $25 dollar per day insurance fee.

You can still rent with someone else. The car that you rent is a Hyundai Getz or equivalent While a full weeks rental of a Corolla with Kenney's is $225 per week. You make the choice.

Ok, that makes more sense. Thanks for clarifying.

We stayed there Jan 6- 13, 2007 and it turned out to be our worst hotel experience ever. The island is beautiful but avoid this hotel...there is a reason for the low price. Half the rooms face the main road of the island and are very noisy late at night when motorcycles and cars zoom by. The interior of our room not only looked tired and worn but was also very dirty. We posted our review with the photos taken so you can see for yourself. It takes a couple of days for Tripadvisor to publish our review, so you should see it in the review section soon.

The front desk staff, the night manager and the waiters at the restaurant were very unfriendly. We felt so unwelcome that we wanted to get away from hotel everyday and did not use their rec facilities at all. People we met outside of the hotel were very friendly, especially on the Dutch side.

We read the Tripadvisor reviews which were very good for the food there but according to a post on Dec 31, 2006, the chef that the hotel advertised had left the hotel for sometime . No wonder the food we had was bland and sometimes undercooked.

Well, beware of this $1100 deal. If you have no expectation of comfort or service, this is your place. I traveled and worked all over the Caribbean and this is one of the worst places I've been. The cheaper rooms are less than 50 feet from the main road. Traffic will wake you up at all hours. The bar closes at 10:30 pm. May be you can drink yourself into oblivion by then to ignore the noise. If not, you will have to dish out an additional 30 euros a night to upgrade to a so-called superior room to get some rest. Don't complain because they'll tell you that you got what you paid for and perhaps you shouldn't have stayed there if you can afford it. Good luck.

I have to agree with 'TTL'. This is one of the worst resorts/hotels I've stayed at. The hotel itself could be ok if the service wasn't so bad. I have NEVER had as bad service as I had here. No one is friendly and it seems like you're bothering them by asking a simple question. I saw many staff members roll their eyes in annoyance at their guests. The front desk people are the worst!

The all-inclusive option is a pain in the a**...way too many rules when it comes to drinks that don't even make sense. The listing states "international drinks"....no such thing here unless you pay top dollar for it....2 Absolut vodka and tonics....$16 USD! They have a wide assortment of mixed drinks....unfortunately, you can't have them unless you pay for them. You're allowed the first 3 on the menu and that's it....what a joke this place is!

At night you can sit on the outside patio for dinner which is very nice. There are tables along the outside railing that are marked "reserved"...why? You have to pay $15 Euros ($22 USD) per person to sit there!! This does include a glass of cheap champagne...woohoo! So the tables remain empty for the evening except for the manager and his entourage. He's about the only one in the restaurant that gets any kind of service....sickening!!

The "standard" rooms are street facing and can be noisey. I asked to be changed to a pool facing or anything NOT street facing. The rooms are old and worn out. The cleaning in questionable. We had dirt under the dresser top glass and ants crawling. After a couple of days it did get cleaned and sprayed. The TV only worked when it felt like it...this was a common occurance amoung many guests. Not a huge deal with me, but still annoying.

Although this was a "good deal"....trust me...pay some extra $$ and stay somewhere else that wants your business. DO NOT go by the positive reviews on this site. I went with an open mind and low expectations. I tried to be patient while there as well because it is a vacation. I had a great vacation and LOVE St Martin, but I will NEVER stay here again.

I have also noticed that the "management" has been responding to some bad reviewers. My suggestion would be to take note of what people are saying and change accordingly. Air Transat should take this place off their listing of trips.

DAWAT...I meant to say in my previous post....DO NOT go here...check out Sonest Maho on the other side of the island. It's not much more and well worth the extra money! Stayed there a few years ago and LOVED it. I won't stay anywhere else from now on.

Just returned from a week in this hotel - it is not a 3 star hotel in my opinion. I would rate it a 2 star at best. It is a 3 floor walk up which was a problem to elder vacationers as no offer was made to carry luggage for them. Our room faced the parking lot and the bathroom smelled of urine as did other peoples.

The food is less than inspiring with little variety. Our fellow traveller was warned by the waiter to eat lobster elsewhere as theirs were frozen, as was most of the food.

Breakfast was the same every day with no variety.

The car rental person warned us not to lock the car as it would be broken in to, so we did not lock ours but they popped the trunk anyway when we parked at Friars Bay beach. The roads are terrible, the volume of traffic is unbelievable. It is better to hop on the local van/bus service for a dollar and ride in to town.

We were also warned by the Air Transat guide not to walk alone after dark in Marigot or Phillipsburg. A canadian boy was shot on the boardwalk last week in Phillipsburg.

I would not reccomend this hotel to anyone and would not be in a hurry to return to St. martin.

We are just back from a one-week vacation at the Mecure Simpson and we just loved it! We especially loved the food. I see that this will be the first post in 2008, some things may have changed.

We waited ‘til one week before travelling and could have booked for just under $1,000.00. We were advised to get a superior room for $50.00 more each. With the superior room we got vouchers for drinks and admittance to a nearby Casino, a lobster dinner and an optional complementary three day car rental, if we paid 25 Euros a day for the insurance. We also had a complimentary bottle of rum in the room, but the bar was free.

There is Ocean swimming a kilometer away, we swam in the Lagoon and the pool. The room was fine. The restaurant was lovely and the food was wonderful. We never did figure out how to use the coffee machines in the restaurant.

We went on the moonlight cruise. We drove our rental around the Island a couple of times, parking is a challenge. We drove to the butterfly farm and explored some side roads.

The Air Transat late flight was a pain! We discovered while there we could have flown out of Hamilton, with Westjet in the AM and headed back mid-day, in a more comfortable 737. Oh well.

We would go back again.
