Taking Teenagers--where can we have a beach and walk to town

We'd like to find a place to stay where we are in walking distance to a beach with water activities (teenagers--sailing, snorkeling, etc.) AND a town/village near enough that we don't have to drive (so the boys could walk).

Thanks. Any suggestions are appreciated!

If you don't mind a European beach (topless and some nudity), Orient is the best.

The two previous posters have supplied the two areas you should be looking at:

Maho vs Orient Beach.

Maho = Night life/some shopping/Casino. The airport is right there and it is an amazing experience to see the planes landing/taking off. You are also within walking distance to Mullet Bay Beach and Maho Beach.

Orient Beach = French side of the Island. A huge beach with tons of water activites. No shopping within walking distance.

Actually, there is alittle shopping in the Orient area, but that wasn't on the wish list. I personally would be happier with my teens walking around Orient Village in the evenings than Maho.

Maho is like a little mini Las Vegas to me. Orient Village has restaurants, a couple of shops, a beach bar or two in the evening, a internet cafe etc......

Maho is kinda gross, I think the best "area" to stay with teenage boys would be in Philipsburg. Nice beach, many, many restaurants, shopping, casinos. Lots of little city streets to peruse and a beach right downtown. It might be a nice compromise -- parents vs. kids. Orient is the best beach by far, but your teens will be bored in 1/2 a day.

Maho has this too, but it is sort of a contrived downtown shopping mall sort of feel.

Did you ever find the right spot to take teenagers to in St. Martin? We going over spring break and I'm looking for a place to stay.

I don't think Phillipsburg would be a good choice with teens. Not much for them to do at night that is safe. Simpson bay area offers many places to eat and all sorts of water activities. There is also a theater that shows first run films. Daytime shopping is there but limited. There are places to stay that are walking distance like Royal Palm, Atrium, Pelican and Flamingo.
