Pelican or Oyster Bay-Which one is better?

I recently posted a post regarding Pelican Resort and found out now I have a choice to pick this place or Oyster Bay. Which one is better? This is important to me: Good beach, lounge chairs, not hearing loud planes, beach/pool bar (even swim up if have one), good view from room. Any suggestions?

I am partial to Oyster Bay and have stayed there 3 years in a row. Oyster Bay sits on Dawn Beach which is one of the nicest beaches on the island. There are umbrellas and chairs free of charge on the beach set up. There are 2 bars and restaurants at the resort and a large infinity pool. It is definitely not noisy at Oyster Bay and has the most beautiful views. The staff is wonderful and very friendly.

Either will meet yor needs - however, Pelican does have some rooms that don't have great views.

On the other hand, Pelican is in the heart of Simpson Bay within walking distance to many great restaurants, bars and a casino or two. Oyster Bay is a little remote.

I have been goning to the Pelican Resort for years and have stay in rooms in most of the buildings. There are rooms with less desirable views but the amenties at the resort make up for it. There is a nice spa, casino, shopping, mini-mart,( I think) 5 pools, tennis court. swim-up pool bar and cute little beach with bar. There are chairs available to guests and the only planes you will really hear are the really big 747's. But it serves as a warning to pull out your camera for some great pictures. Pelican is also in a great location. Close to great restaurants and nightlife and there are plenty of wonderful beaches close by. I have never stayed at Oyster Bay because we like to be closer to the nightlife. Though you may want check to the construction situation on Dawn. I just got back from the island but we didn't get to Dawn this year. Hope info was helpful!

We stay at the Atrium, right next door to Pelican. The only time I have ever heard a plane, and it's in the distance, was sitting outside in the evening. It's a distant rumble.

I'll admit, we head to the French side for beaches during the day.

But never hear planes inside.

Oyster Bay by a mile. Pellican is in serious need of renovation and the clientele leaves a little to be desired

Just returned from St. Maarten. We stayed at Oyster Bay for two weeks. It is wonderful. It is not near the airport or alot of noise. Look on the St. Maarten map for Oyster Pond on the east coast. It is on the border of the French side and our two bedroom condo had a view of Capt. Oliver's Marina on the French side. We went there (Capt. Oliver's Restaurant) for a sat. night buffet with lobster, shrimp, live music. Delicious!! Also, the restaurants at Oyster Bay were very good. All the food in St. Maarten/St. Martin is great. The beach (Dawn Beach) was the best on the island, other than Orient Bay from what I understand. The pool has won awards for the best in the Carribean. It is oceanfront and very unique.

We also saw Pelican Resort. That is where the catamaran's go out for the boat trips. It use to be a 5 star resort, but not now. It has changed ownership a couple times and they are now in the process of remodeling it. It also is in a congested area of Simpson Bay. You would love Oyster Bay. It is a 5 Star resort. Hope you get to go. Have fun!!!!

My vote is Oyster Bay! We bought a timeshare about a year and a half ago and have visited there 3 times since then. Rooms are very clean and cheerful, staff is helpful & friendly , food is good (plus nice kitchens in the room to stock up on breakfast and lunch foods so you can do a nice dinner out). The pool is beautiful and lots of lounge chairs and umbrellas around it. I'm not much of a beach person but the beach is nice, with free chairs and umbrellas but it's not really big. Oyster Bay is much quieter that Simpson Bay. You will definitely need a car to explor the rest of the island. There is some construction going on down Dawn Beach-a new Westin Resort which will be great when completed - but we never heard the noise. If you can, try to get a Junior Suite (second floor)- they are decorated really cute & have a nice porch with a great view of the ocean. They are good for 2 people. I hope you love it as much as we do!
