Jewelry Shopping - Is there a difference from Canada

I was looking at the cost of loose diamonds in St. Martin and compared that to Canadian prices. Only a 10% difference which would not cover the duty back to Canada. Diamond rings appeared to be less expensive though. Thoughts, experiences, advice?

Be very careful and don't buy unless you are sure about the item. My wife has bought many things over the years at great prices. Read tripadvisor reviews about various stores and decided for yourself. One more thing. If you buy a ring get a certiificate if you can and do not let the store take it somewhere to have it sized. Take it as is and have it done here in Canada. Good luck.

We bought a diamond tennis bracelet, told them we would have it checked when we got home etc they assured us we got a deal. The jeweler in states laughed at the poor quality if diamonds AND many settings were loose. After much hassle we returned the bracelet and was sent a "more expensive" bracelet for our trouble but it was assessed at what we paid for originally.

We have bought several great pieces of John Hardy Jewelry from 'Art of Time' in Marigot, and the staff worked with us on the price
