Thoughts on Pelican Key area?

I will be staying at a villa in Pelican Key, on Billy Folly Road. Any thoughts on the area in terms of convenience, noise and safety?

Where is your villa on Billy Folly Road? Then I can perhaps give you a more specific answer. We stayed at a villa in Pelican Cove Condos at the far east end of Billy Folly Road in February. It is generally a very safe, quiet, residential area.

If you are staying closer to the Hollywood Casino and the various resorts and bars along the start of Billy Folly Road, nearer to Welfare Road, it will be more active, but I would certainly not consider it generally noisy. It is very convenient to all the restaurants, entertainment and activities in the Simpson Bay area.

With a rental car it is very easy to get anywhere on the island.

The address is #80g Billy Folly Road, not sure which part of the road that would be...it's the Villa Namaste.

====================

Here is a map of the area restaurants - most of the villas are facing the beach and ocean - chances are you are with them at the very fare end of the street - nearest restaurant would be Hideaway (see map) - the street is a snake like winding road and at points very hilly but you can walk to the casino even though it is quite a dark street at some points. Hideaway is #53

Yes, you are past the Hollywood Casino and all the resorts. You are in the quiet, residential part of Billy Folly Road. The busy part is from Welfare Road to where the road makes a sharp turn back to the east again by the Flamingo Beach Resort. Just before that turn is the Hollywood Casino.

In the nook of that turn you will find a little grocery/convenience store (Peli Deli) and The Red Piano (bar/nightclub). There is also a nice, casual restaurant/French bakery with an outdoor patio, called Bon Appetit, across the street from Peli Deli, that has great food and pastries. It is usually open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, if you don't feel like making something at the villa. It is only about 500 metres from your villa.

You are also within a somewhat longer walking distance of the many restaurants along Welfare Road. It is about 1.5 kms to the start of Billy Folly Road and Welfare Road from your villa. There are also a number of bars and restaurants along Billy Folly Road from Welfare Road to the Hollywood Casino.

I think you will find it a very quiet, safe and convenient location, with lots to do nearby. I would also recommend renting a car to see other areas of the island and visit the different beaches. Nothing on the island is more than about 45 minutes away, as long as you avoid rush hours.

I just got back from 10 days staying on Billy Folly. I thought the whole area was very quiet and very safe. Especially after sundown it was almost like there was a curfew. Even the more active areas around Peli Deli, Hollywood casino weren't "that" busy any time of the day. As for convenience, your not too far from anything especially since you have a car. We never rented a car or used a taxi during our stay on the island, public transportation all the way. We were on the go every day til evening when we would arrive back at the condo. Taking the buses did mean we had to make the 15 minute walk to and from billy folly to the main road each day but that's a non issue to me.

I think it's massively convenient, especially when you figure out you don't have to climb 'the hill' but can cut through the simpson bay resort or walk along their walkway and beach. don't underestimate Alexander's above Bon Apetit or the Hideaway

Alexanders is a great place for local food. Not many know about it but is a real gem. Just be prepared if you go to the Hideaway at La Vista for a surely waiter that has been there for years. Management knows about him but can't do anything about it with the current labor laws. Too bad as the food and ambiance is good.
