Two best hotels in St. Maarten

If money was no object, where would you stay in St. Maarten? Must have nice beach on premises.

Clearly. La Samanna is the tops. Second to that I might say L'Esplenade, however no beach on premises, its a walk down a hill and across a road (approx 1/8 mile). But looking into the future:

set to open Jan 2007 is The Westin St. Maarten Dawn Beach Resort & Spa. This resort will boast the largest freshwater infinity edge pool on the island, including a swim-up bar, hot tubs and full-service spa, two oceanfront restaurants and casino.

Also, Carlson Hotels has invested $60 million for the acquisition and renovation of the L’Habitation de Lonvilliers Resort (formerly the Le Meridien), to create the new Radisson St. Martin Resort and Spa. The resort is expected reopen as the Radisson prior to the year-end holidays in 2006.

The Radisson St. Martin Resort's totally redesigned grounds will have tropical gardens, water lagoons, a “lazy river” recreational pool, and a signature swimming pool and new spa facility. Two new restaurants will also be created.

The Radisson won't open until after the season next year. As with most contruction on the island, it is taking twice as long as expected.

cmauro----Do you know if this would be part of a timeshare resort? My guess, I would say Yes. It must look pretty nice. How far is this resort from, lets say, the Pelican?

Thanks

ISLANDS722 - are u talking about the Radisson? if so I do not believe its a timeshare (although I could be wrong) because, 1. Radissons are generally hotels, not timeshare properties and 2. It is located in Anse Marcel, off the French Cul De Sac and there are little (if any) time shares on the French side. Anse Marcel itself is a harrowing drive up a windy single lane mountain road and down the other side. I wouldnt want to try it drunk at night.

As far as location - or distance from Pelican - its closest to Grand Case (about 5 min). Copy and pase this map into your browser:

sint-maarten.net/St-Maarten-maps/Streifenand…

You can see Anse Marcel almost all the way north (the Pelican by contrast is near Simpson Bay (look on the south shore moving west). Being that the roads are generally single laned and windy and traffic can be slow at times, I would estimate the drive from Pelican to Anse Marcel to be about 30 minutes.
