All the years we visited our one must do was the pub crawl on the Celine www.sailstmaarten.com. Now that we live here, we still love to do it!

Actually, we were considering the Sunset Cruise as we have a couple that has strong issues with rough water, so the plan is to that for sure. The Pub Crawl does sound like alot of fun though. Cheers!

We do the sunset cruise 4 or 5 times a year, and we get a great sunset from our balcony so it's not just for the view! But it's a lovely evening. But I have to say, both the sunset cruise AND the pub crawl are both done inside the lagoon. Unless there's a tropical storm, it will be calm. If it's not calm, Neil will not go.

While we have not done it, friends of ours always take the 12 Meter Challenge out of Philipsburg. http://www.12metre.com/ I believe it's the #1 excursion on the island. It's on our bucket list.

Nowadays, a special afternoon is lounging the day away at Layla's in Nettle Bay. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKxST6dFE1E If you need a break from the sun or get a rainy day, here is a place to go relax, enjoy the view, the food, the incredible tropical garden atmosphere. Casual, unrushed and French. We've spent hours over a couple of drinks and a baked Camembert enjoying the peace and quiet!

Yeah, the 12Metre sounds incredible but a little too adventurous for our group. Now Layla's, that's more our speed and looks amazing. Thanks for the heads up, most appreciated.

Pick up some spices and sauces from the store by Paradise View, Orient Bay. Every time we cook with them, it reminds us of the island. Bernadine who works there is wonderful and a wealth of information. Even if you aren't a shopper, the view is spectacular and well worth the trip.

Karakters on Friday evenings has jazz starting about 7 (saxaphone and female singer), it's right on the beach (Simpson), has excellent tapas. As the sunsets, it gets very dark and is lit by Tiki torches and minimal lights. Very relaxing. You may need reservations, but in September low season, this may not be so much of an issue.

Spending the day at Dreams (French restaurant/beach bar) as you approach Nettle Bay from the Cupecoy direction, on the left side. A more upscale setting and finer dining than typical beach bars (which usually I prefer). Plush chairs and beach beds that can be rented for two. Or, get there early and you can use their beach chairs and umbrellas for no charge if you eat/drink there. And the beach is very nice - blend of sand and crushed seashells feels like a foot massage when you walk over it.

A catamaran day trip to Prickly Pear off the coast of Anguilla, or a one day visit to Anguilla -taking the ferry from Marigot and then taxi or rent a car and drive to Shoal Bay East, Rendezvous Bay or Meads Bay.

Calmos Cafe in Grand Case right on the beach as well with a great view of Anguilla and the sunset (informal). The Tree Top Lounge at the Loterie Farm for drinks (if it is open in September). Buccaneer Beach Bar in Simpson Bay for a nice grilled dinner, music and BBCs (island type drink that is addicting).

Where are you staying. If your in the Simpson Bay area look at some of the excursions through www.stmaarten-activities.com They have a special sunset cruise for $15.00 certain nights if your staying at the Flamingo, Royal Palm or Simpson Bay Resort. It's the same cruise on their site without the snacks but soda, beer and wine is provided.
