So Confused/Where To Stay? Nice Beach a must!!!

So confused. We are trying to decide between Curacao and St. Maarten. At first we thought to stay on the dutch side, now not so sure. Here is what we are looking for: A nice beach, Soft sand (not rocky), clear, relatively calm waters. Are all the beaches at the resorts narrow? When I view the photos they seem that way to me. The resort: We do like a larger type of resort with a large size pool, restaurants/bars/stores. We will be going with our three kids 16, 15 & 12. We have been to several caribbean islands, really loved the beaches of Caymen & Turks. Other islands we have been to are:St John, Cozumel, Jamaica, Aruba. Any info would help us out. Thanks

been to st. martin several times. be prepared if your bringing your family. alot ot nude people on the beaches. we stay on the dutch side near the airport. we have time shares which you can rent. the royal islander great place. kids would love watching the planes come great area casino across the street as well as many resturants. just up the road is the pelican resort another one of my favorites. check out the web site "pelicanresorts.com" for a 2 bedroom unit you won't be disapointed. also check out royalislander.com. we always rent a car and go to the french side thats where oreint beach is. one side is the naked beach and the other side is clothing optional mostly topless but you will see people walking around naked. otherwise all the beaches at the resorts are really great/ food and shopping in st martin is the best i don't think they have a bad resturant on the whole island.

hope this helps have a great time.

You really don't want to go to St Maarten at all. It's a great place for adults but not so good for what you're describing. A much better place to get everything that you want is the Marriott in St Kitts. They have 2 huge pools, a terrific beach, and more than enough to keep the kids happy. You can explore the island and it's totally safe. It's really a beautiful island. I've lived thru the kid thing and the one thing I know is that if they're not happy, then you're not happy. It's a brand new hotel with every amenity that you could ask for. Wait until the kids are gone and then go to St Maarten every year after.

If you stay at Maho, you can walk to Mullet Bay which is a awesome beach. Very wide, super soft sand and crystal clear water. It is as calm as a bathtub. I loved it there and went as often as possible. The resort also offers a free shuttle to Orient beach three times a week so you can save on the cost of a car rental.

My 15 yr. old daughter loved St. Martin but she is way beyond wanting kid activities. She loved the shopping of course - she liked the little shops in Grand Case better than the hoopla in Philipsburg. She also really liked Marigot. She loved snorkeling around the Grand Case beach - even though there was not a lot to see, she still did it for hours. When she wasn't snorkeling, she was floating. We did have a good experience snorkeling at Creole Rock. She also really liked Baie Rouge and would have loved to have spent more time there. There were lots of families with teenagers there. Fortunately, she has never liked kid food so she loved the food on St. Martin - especially the snapper at Tropicana and the curried conch at Le Ti Coin Creole.

I have been to St Martin four times and love it. I agree with just baout everything the person from Brooklyn said. Le MEridian Habitacion may fulfill your needs, since it is a larger resort, with a big pool, and calm waters and stores.

I have also been to Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, St Bart and Mexico. I like st martin the best but Mexico was also a blast and may be a viable alternative for you. Check out the Iberostar Paraiso Beach. It is a huge resort complex with a wide gorgeous beach on the premises and ahuge pool. The water (ocean) is not quite as beautiful as in st martin but its close. Its all inclusive with lots of activities and stores. You are a very short bus ride (on a chartered a/c luxury bus) from the resort town of Playa Del Carmen.

I went before the most recent hurricane there, so things may be diffierent but I recommend checking it out. It is also much much cheaper.
