Water safety

Good day, we are coming to St Maarten in Dec 2017 and I would appreciate some input on water safety. Are the beaches safe due to health regulations?

Thanks

Not sure about French side quality testing, but Dutch Side the Nature Foundation has been cleaning waterways and testing water with good results. Personally have been swimming at Orient Bay half a dozen times in past week or so with so side effects. Beaches are beautiful, water is clear.

SXMlover, any comments on Perch Lite, activity there, and the c/o beach?

It's open on weekends only far as I can tell. Chair rentals, limited bar, decent menu if you get there early enough. Probably 20 + people on Club O beach on Sunday.

Beach is big and beautiful.

Not sure if anyone can answer this but, just thinking from a realistic perspective......after a hurricane of this magnitude would you not expect there to be a fair bit of debris (nails, glass, wood etc etc etc) on the beach and in the water? Can not imagine that first priority on the island would be to dredge the beach and in the water to ensure as clean as possible. Thinking mainly Orient Beach....

Thanks for the heads up on the link......any chance something like that will take place on the French side and or will France supply similar assistance?

Pretty sure it's been done. Been swimming in Orient Bay and the water is pristine, beach is in good shape too,
