sugar beach-June 2014

The wife and I are staying at sugar beach for 5 nights celebrating our 8 year wedding anniversary, and first trip in five years without kids. I wanted to get suggestions for airport transfers/private tour operators as we want to do some private tours while we are there. In addition any suggestions for some nice dinners off property. From what I have seen these are some ideas in no specific order, Jade Mountain, Hotel Chocolat, and Ladera. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciate. Thanks.

For going out to dinner while staying at Sugar Beach, Jade Mountain, Dashene (Ladera), and Boucan (Hotel C), are all good, fine dinning options. Boucan is probably the most unique of the three due to the way they source and use local ingredients, in particular the cacao they grow and produce in the area. But these restaurants are all hotel, tourist-oriented restaurants and thus it's also nice to carve out a little time to try some of the local restaurants in the area. Some examples (for lunch) Martha's Tables, Fedo's; for dinner or lunch--Orlando's and Divine Delightz. Martha's Tables is very near Sugar Beach so at least try to get there for some very tasty local food.

Speaking of Anse Chastanet/Jade Mounain, during part of the month of June the resort is running a mango festival with culinary events and cooking classes that might be worth checking out (www.jademountain.com/events.html).

For something off the beaten path consider touring the Zion Lion Farm (Anse L'Ivrogne) http://tributetothelion.blogspot.com It's just a short boat ride away from Sugar Beach and it certainly is a unique, beautiful, unspoiled area to explore. Another very scenic, more private beach to explore that you can easily get to by water taxi is Anse Mamin, near Anse Chastanet.

From the airport you can just catch a taxi to take you to your hotel (the trips are non metered.) No problem with this at all. You can also use a transport/private tour company and arrange your transfer in advance. This can be a good way to go because then you'll have a local provider to work with for taking other tours during the week that you might want to do. Some operators who work in the area to check out include More than Just a Cab (www.morethanacab.com), Serenity TVL (www.serenitytvl.com), Christopher Taxi (www.sluchristaxi.com), etc. There's a lot to do in the area so you won't likely be lacking for adventures. Taxis can get a little expensive if you plan on doing a bit of running around so it's good to find a driver you like and workout the costs in advance for the trips that you want to take.

If you are looking for a good operator for a boat trip (snorkel trip, sunset sail, etc.) check out Mystic Man Tours in Soufriere (www.mysticmantours.com).

For transportation we use www.phvtours.com Excellent service and pricing. They will take you anywhere you wish to visit.

The restaurants you listed are great choices. You must check with Jade Mountain as it is by reservation only and only if they have space available to outsiders. You cannot just show up there. Another idea is Mango Tree at Stonefield. If you want to try something more local ask around and you will get suggestions from those who live on island.

I am not certain that Martha's Table is still open. I heard they were closing.

Catch a water taxi on the beach... I know Randoph (and his sons) frequent Sugar beach and their prices are negotiable. You can also schedule them to do a land tours, such as the botanical gardens and sulphur springs/mud baths, and diamond waterfalls at a discounted rate over what the resort would charge. We split a ride up to Marigot Bay with another couple by water taxi and it was beautiful to view the island from sea and eat some local food at decent prices.

I also suggest eating at Dasheene at Ladera and Boucan at Hotel Chocolat. We ate at both and it was well worth it. Schedule your dinner at sunset. The views are amazing from both restuarants.

Bon jou joe j,

GOSL-licensed & regulated land taxis are waiting on rotation at Hewanorra (UVF) just outside the Arrival Hall.

Although non-metered, taxi fares for the most frequent routes are fixed by the gov't and land taxi association.

Call on Soufriere born, raised & based Fimba for day-trips & excursions by land taxi 758 719 1209.

Bless up! Paul

@ Jillian H... was Randolph/Ocean Angel's fare to MB the same for each couple?

@ keithjwaz... mesi for the recommendation!
