Castries, St. Lucia

Please tell me what is within a 2-3 mile walking distance from the cruise ship terminal.

How would you describe the port?

Thank you

Cruise ships dock right in Castries City. There is not a whole lot of interest in the area, it is very much a working city.

One grea thing right near the docks is the Castries Craft & Food market - lare semi-open air market with souvenirs, crafts, spices, produce and other foods all under (and around) one roof. Several local eateries inside too. Literally 5-10 minute walk from the docks.

Derek Walcott Square is about 10-15 minutes from the docks, lovely open air park. Serenity Park is across from the docks also, just a small park area. The Cathedral is about 10-15 minute's walk from the piers also - lovely cathedral to check out.

The ships' piers both have largish duty-free shopping complexes that you have to make your way through in order to leave the port area - so a bit of shopping there.

Otherwise, there is not much in walking distance from the ports - just your average Caribbean city!

Consider a tour for the day or hiring a taxi to take you around to actually see some of ths island - up north to Pigeon Island and Rodney Bay or south to the breathtaking Pitons and volcano....you'll see very little of St. Lucia in the port area.

Enjoy your cruise.

Given ship excursions can be quite pricy, it would definitely be worth considering hiring a car and driver, the driver will customise the day to suit your preferences, and that way you get to spend the time doing what you want without the constraints of a group excursion.

Thanks reedprincess, I think Gremlins were at play as it popped up at the top of current messages and also strangely only showed your initial reply - didn't notice the date!
