Travelling around the island

We go to Windjammer Landing every year. We hired a car through the hotel one year and thought that it was expensive. Are there reliable car hire firms nearby which are not so expensive? Would it be cheaper to take a taxi as there are four of us?

Hi,

There are plentiful reliable car hire firms within the area. What price did you pay ?

car rentals aren't cheap - usually anywhere from $55 - $60 / day and up. If you use a credit card that covers the CDW then you'll save about $15 / day on insurance.

How much would it cost to hire a taxi for a day to do an island tour?

Renting at Windjammer is no more expensive than renting from any other car hire place. Depends on what you wanted the vehicle for whether 4 people warrants getting a taxi instead of renting. If you are just going to be going to Rodney Bay to eat out then the taxi is definitely more economical.

you can check hire car prices at several of the rental agencies online - Ben's West Coast Jeeps, Hertz, etc. Cars run around $70 and up a day, plus you need insurance and a local temporary driver's license. Sometimes it's just easier to go with the taxi and let a knowledgable driver familiar with the roads take that stress off you, leaving you to enjoy the scenery, take pictures, etc. If it's just a day trip down to Soufriere one day, then I would go with a tour or a taxi for the day - with a taxi you can personalize your trip however you want. Would be about $150-$200 depending on time, etc. Around RB area for dinner trips, a cab is great cuz you can have a cocktail or 2 and not have to worry about the drive home.

Either way, I am sure you will have a great time. Enjoy!
